Cinq a Sept

For fall 2026, Cinq a' Sept: 5 to 7pm, meaning "magic hour" - the time that light sinks slowly and clothes turn up the heat - celebrated its tenth anniversary. CEO and Creative Director Jane Siskin's chic brand of cocktail classics: blazers, dresses, faux fur, satin dresses - are at their libation best here. It's a combo of ultra wearable but elevated crystal jackets and satin slips, pussybow blouses, gilded embroidery, silk trimmed in lace, and lots of gold brocade. Colors
leaned to deep burgundy, olive green and ivory - with some reds and blues for flirtier nights. Siskin, a child of the 70's, still manages to imbue rock n' roll\and rebellion into what are classic cuts - it toes the line between soft and edge, nostalgia and now. The Boys and Girls Chorus of New York sang live to songs by the Bee Gees, Steely Dan and The Beatles. Okay, I'll take every piece, please - and the soundtrack that goes with it.

I just found the files from our first covered event for LAmoodboard.com which we shot ages ago in 2022 at the Wiltern. Celine then was the mastermind of the great Hedi Slimane who put his imprint on everything. His genius shows immediately with the tone and vibe of that evening.

Combine the masqueraded mystery of Truman Capote's Black and White Ball, the magic and music of heyday Studio 54, the bacchanal of Woodstock and Coachella, the flamboyant dance numbers from Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby - throw in some sparkles and exposed skin from The Grammy's and MTV Awards - then you'll get an almost understated picture of Bryan Rabin's second annual New Years Eve Ball at Giorgio's Discotheque. A mega glam crowd of all ages, sexes and styles - as long as it as black and white, black or white - danced up a wind tunnel to the spins of dj's Nicky Siano and Heidi Lawden - while Rabin himself, Susanne Bartsch and triller Joey Aria officiated. Did I have fun?

The sweat and dedication it takes to involve one-self in this sport (martial art) is staggering. To excel we are talking three to four times per week. And it’s gruelling in so many different ways - from the white belt to the black. That is why a promotion for these men and women is so distinctive - because they did the work. Some of them for over a decade or more. What that means in lay terms is that for several or more hours a week these few fight, literally. They learn moves, memorize them and then try to submit their teammates. And if you're just starting out -nthen you're at the bottom of that pile. But yet for some reason you keep coming. And eventually, hopefully, you move up that precarious food chain.

But here is a room full of these people who through sheer grit and determination keep coming back, keep learning, keep sharing and in the end create a very tight community, a family. Thus making all the time, the sweat, the injuries worthwhile. Because you have proven yourself bigger than whatever you thought yourself possible.
