Dans un long entretien accordé à Variety, le réalisateur gallois Jamie Adams raconte comment il a sorti Quentin Tarantino de sa retraite pour son nouveau long-métrage, Only What We Carry, où il partage l’affiche avec Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella et Charlotte Gainsbourg. Le premier rôle majeur du cinéaste depuis Une Nuit en Enfer, il y a 30 ans !
Adams raconte avoir attiré Simon Pegg grâce à Martin Freeman. Sofia Boutella et Charlotte Gainsbourg ont ensuite rejoint l’aventure, et l’idée de recruter Tarantino lui est venue après l’avoir vu enchainer les interviews à Sundance et à Cannes, en 2024, puis abandonner son projet de film qui allait devenir The Adventures of Cliff Booth, finalement réalisé par David Fincher.
"Je me suis dit qu’il était dans un moment de contemplation. Je savais aussi que jouer la comédie était sa première passion. Quand j’étais jeune, il était admis qu’il voulait jouer. C’est lui qui a le premier dialogue dans Reservoir Dogs. Donc j’ai invoqué cette facette."
