In less than two weeks, John Huckert's remarkable thriller HARD makes its return to the big screen for the first time in a quarter century. In celebration, I had the trailer fully remastered in 4k from its original negative A/B rolls, revealing detail and color that was entirely absent from the long out of date standard definition master. This is the first time I've had the amazing opportunity to have something remastered & brought up to spec for modern displays & the results were night and day.

This screening is a labor of love for me, having cost far more than I could ever hope to make back in ticket sales, but I fully believe that this is a movie more people need to see & I am doing my part to make that a reality. The wildly underseen serial killer thriller HARD from 1998 is returning to theaters for one night only, April 27 at 9PM. Shot without permits on a shoestring budget raised by maxing out 67 credit cards, HARD is an unflinching and original take on a genre at its prime in the mid 90s. Something of a hit at festivals in its time, HARD is a testament to creativity and ingenuity, primed to find a whole new generation of audiences starting right here at the Texas Theatre projected straight from the original 35mm print.

Director John Huckert will be in attendance to deliver a brief intro and a Q&A afterwards to answer all your burning questions like, "why didn't this get better distribution?" As if that's not enough, the freaks at @texastheatre have paired it with another gritty gay serial killer thriller, William Friedkin's CRUISING (1980) which screens the same day at 6:45 PM.

I'm incredibly proud to announce that my next screening at the historic Texas Theatre is not a repertory pick, but a contemporary indie classic-in-the-making. THE PEE PEE POO POO MAN is a hilarious low budget comedy spin on the thriller, existing somewhere in the space between the digital maximalism of a Connor O'Malley video, a psychedelic reimagining of David Cronenberg's paranoiac drug fugue NAKED LUNCH, and a modern day riff on the TAXI DRIVER formula. Based on true events that occurred in Toronto, ON where it was filmed, THE PEE PEE POO POO MAN is the definitive true crime comedy shitpost motion picture of our lifetime, and I guarantee you'll laugh til your sides hurt!! The original VHS copies had almost half of the frame cut out and all of the gorgeously colored gel lighting ala Argento/Bava was washed out and murky, and the bungled presentation of his hard work led director Bruce Toscano to abandon filmmaking for decades until it was lovingly restored in gorgeous widescreen by @_terror_vision_. It’s a deliberately paced film that follows the logic of an unending nightmare and a slow descent into hell, a nocturnal transmission full of creeping dread and pulsing synths, finally being reappraised as the cult classic it is by audiences like you!
