We are looking forward to the opening of “Demolition/Escape” at Fluentum, on April 28, 2026. Bringing together three artists whose work with video and sound shares a concern with movement, risk and inversion, the exhibition features Tina Keane’s “Escalator” (1988), fully restored and exhibited for the first time in over thirty years, alongside newly commissioned works by Hilary Lloyd and James Richards. 

In “Escalator”, reversal and replay estrange familiar gestures from habitual meaning and lend everyday movement new symbolic weight. Inversion operates here, and in the practices of Lloyd and Richards in different ways, as a critical method. Read more on our website (link in bio).

We are proud to share that Fluentum’s recent co-production of Jordan Strafer’s “TALK SHOW” (2025), the third and final installment of her “Loophole” series, will premiere on the occasion of the Whitney Biennial in New York. “TALK SHOW”, like many of Strafer’s films, is informed by a distinctly feminist perspective, critically examining the mechanisms of power that continue to shape contemporary society and public opinion.

The opening of the Whitney Biennial on March 8 coincides with International Women’s Day. On this occasion, we would like to extend our respect and gratitude to the many female voices and perspectives that continue to challenge patriarchal structures within the art world and beyond.

SoiL Thornton’s “Grace/Graze(d)/Grief Complementary” (2011–2018) is now part of the Fluentum collection. The video was presented as part of the 2025 group exhibition “Rushes” last spring, co-curated by Juliette Desorgues and Raoul Klooker, alongside works by David Moser, Josiane M.H. Pozi, Morag Keil, Phung-Tien Phan, and Mona Varichon.

Thornton’s video work was shot with a fish-eye lens that follows the artist wandering through the deserted streets of New York at night. The figure moves hurriedly from kiosk to kiosk, pausing to inspect oblong paperweights typically used to hold stacks of newspapers down. These deliberate gestures take on a performative, almost ritualistic quality, imbuing the nocturnal journey with a sense of disquieting reverence.

“The End of THEATER” at Galerie @isabellabortolozzi presents all parts of Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff’s episodic film “THEATER”, set and filmed at @newtheaterhollywood in Los Angeles. Following the commissioning, production, and premiere of the first three episodes at Fluentum in 2024 as part of the artists’ solo exhibition, we are very happy to see the work return to Berlin with its final episodes, which were also co-commissioned and co-produced by Fluentum. “The End of THEATER” will be on view until March 21, 2026.

In addition to Luzie Meyer’s 6-channel sound installation “Berlin Piece for Voice and Tap Dance”, co-produced by Fluentum on the occasion of last year’s @berlinbiennale, the eponymous video work by the artist is now also part of the collection.

The work presents a close-up of two tap-dancing feet, slowed to accentuate the subtle movements of the trousers rather than the steps. The tiny tap board and the absence of sound create a ghostly, almost spectral presence. Lasting 4.5 minutes and looping seamlessly, the backward and forward motions merge into a continuous, hypnotic flow. Minimal and extremely contained, the movement of the feet is almost imperceptible, while the fabric of the loose trousers produces a hallucinatory, secondary dance. The underlying motion is a fast, constant ticking; the feet themselves do not vary their pattern, reinforcing a sense of constraint and repetition.

We are pleased to announce that our upcoming exhibition, “Demolition/Escape”, will be curated by Dan Kidner in collaboration with Fluentum’s director Raoul Klooker.

“Demolition/Escape” will feature Tina Keane’s “Escalator” (1988), fully restored and exhibited for the first time in over 30 years, alongside newly commissioned works by Hilary Lloyd and James Richards.

Dan Kidner is known for his work restoring and exhibiting significant works of film and video. He has previously overseen the restoration and recontextualization of works such as Stuart Marshall’s “Journal of Plague Year” (1984) and the films “Nightcleaners” (1975) and “’36 to ’77” (1977) by the Berwick Street Collective.

Dan Kidner is a curator and writer based in London. He is Head of Department, Fine Art at Kingston School of Art and is currently working on an exhibition of experimental and avant-garde music, opening at Raven Row, London in January 2027. He was Director of Picture This, Bristol (2011–2013), and City Projects, London (2004–2011). His exhibitions include “The Inoperative Community” at Raven Row (2015) and “Rozdzielona Wspólnota (The Inoperative Community II)” at Muzeum Sztuki, Łódź, Poland (2016). His recent publications include a monograph on the work of Leslie Thornton, edited with Natalie Bell and Milan Ther and published by Sternberg Press (2022), as well as the book and DVD edition “Nightcleaners and ’36 to ’77”, co-edited with Alex Sainsbury and published by Raven Row, Koenig Books and LUX (2018).
