Deux villes qui font rêver, qui fascinent, qui bousculent.

On les traverse avec des yeux émerveillés… ou fatigués.

On y court, on y tombe, on y renaît.

Bagel large iced coffee ou bien croissant café crème.

Chaque ville a son pouls, sa cadence, son art de vivre.

À Paris, le temps s’étire un peu plus, comme un café qu’on laisse refroidir.

À New York, il pulse sans répit. Le vieux adage résonne encore : *time is money.*

On ne s’installe jamais dans une ville par hasard.

On y vient porté par un désir, une promesse, un espoir.

On espère y trouver une place, un futur à bâtir, un lendemain à écrire.

Et même si ces villes brillent autant qu’elles blessent,

Elles nous rappellent qu’on n’avance jamais seuls.

Chacun essaie. Chacun lutte. Chacun rêve.

Paris m’a vu grandir. New York m’a vu mûrir.

À vélo, d’une rive à l’autre, d’un borough à l’autre, je retrouve la même sensation de liberté, cet instant où la ville semble m’appartenir autant que j’appartiens à elle.

Ces villes nous montrent que la beauté se cache dans l’humanité qu’on choisit de voir.

🇫🇷French is full of little phrases that say one thing and mean something else entirely. In our Intermediate Conversation class starting this weekend, you’ll learn how to read between the lines, respond naturally, and finally understand the subtext. “C’est pas mal” does not really mean “it’s not bad.”
In French, it means “it’s pretty good.” Sometimes even “I’m impressed.”

This is a classic example of 🇫🇷litotes, a figure of speech where you express something positive by understating it. French uses it constantly. English does too, but French leans into it more.

And like most things in languages, context + intonation do a lot of the work. “C’est pas mal” said flatly is one thing. Add a little “ah ouais...” before it and the meaning shifts completely.

French people are not being lukewarm. They’re just being French 🫠

Bordeaux Edition: 🇫🇷🍷10 French wine words you actually need to know.

Pagodes de Cos 2021 by @cosdestournel changed my mind about Bordeaux wines so I had to share this precious find with you. It’s a wine from Château Cos d’Estournel, a Second Growth from the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The 2021 vintage is a blend dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruity, fresh and approachable, with notes of blueberry, redcurrant and strawberry.

- Cru Classé: a historic classification for some of Bordeaux’s top wines.

French attitude in 1 min 🇫🇷😎 with one word: Bah

If you want to get comfortable with real, spoken French, there are still a few spots left for my May group classes! Comment “French Class” and I’ll send you the details 👩‍🏫

Bah is a filler word, a small word that doesn’t translate directly, but helps you think, react, and sound more natural in conversation (like “well,” “uh,” or “so” in English). It’s often used in casual conversations (informal register).

What makes it interesting is that its meaning shifts depending on tone and pronunciation. It can express surprise, buy you time to think, signal that something is obvious, show you’re not fully convinced, or brush something off when it’s not a big deal.

PLUS —> Same word, two different meanings 😅🇫🇷

When the S is pronounced = MORE, when the S is silent = NO MORE

→ “Je veux plus de café” = I want more coffee

→ “Je ne veux plus de café” = I don’t want coffee anymore

Here’s where it gets tricky… In real life, French speakers usually drop the “ne” so you’ll just hear: “Je veux plus de café”. It all comes down to one thing: do you hear the S or not? 👂
