Last April, I had the pleasure of working with my fellow Education Committee members on the AIGA Kansas City board to do develop some lettering for what turned into our summer design workshop series. We paired with small independent studios/makers Whitney Manning and Sike Styles Industries to lead workshops focusing on their craft and seeing the workflow behind their projects.

My approach was to create a custom lettering piece that evoked a summer camp feel while giving a nod to 2-toned mid-century illustrations. The goal was to utilize overlapping colors to create a dynamic look to the piece. I looked at century old hunting and game magazines, I threw on a few episodes of “Salute Your Shorts” and the 1995 classic “Heavyweights” to really round out my inspiration for this project.

Slide 1: Final Render on some French Paper I scanned in.
Slide 2: Close-up and utilizing two overlaying colors to create depth.
Slide 3: Mood board images pulled from magazines and menus in the Henchmen Studios archive.
Slide 4: More mood board images and initial rough sketch ideas.
Slide 5: Final sketches before vectoring as well as a black-and-white version and an alternative wide version for various uses.

Thursday November 16th! Come hang out and practice your craft. Drawing, photography, music, comedy, underwater basket weaving, if it's your thing, come hang out and meet with other creative people! Consider this alternative programming to all those "insider" networking events where no one interacts with each other and you grab a business card to throw right into the trash. DM for address. NO JUGGLERS!!

During the redesign of our website we figured it would be a great time to get headshots taken here at Henchmen Studios. Now that the new website is launched, we want you to meet the full team!

I brake for worms bumper stickers are now available to all who want one.

I'm trying to get back into the habit of making stuff that I enjoy without second guessing the final output and being stuck in my head with anxiety if people like my stuff or not. These are the dumbest things I've made in a while and I'm gonna do my best to put more out in the wild, not worrying about any minor imperfections since it's all hand-drawn at the end of the day.

Recently, I've been in the middle of a few large projects for myself which include a new website and archiving a lot of my old work + sketches among other things for some case studies on my site.

I completed the entire project from brief to final delivery of the goods in less than two weeks, with all of the art direction, sketching, vectorizing and choosing paper for printing done in-house here at Henchmen Studios.

As always, I start with a page full of sketches based on the art direction (1), always done entirely by hand before the best ones are refined on vellum a time or two while working out the logistics of scale and text size with other elements incorporated (2). Eventually I'll get to something that needs to be ultra cleaned up before scanned and vectorized in Illustrator (3).

Feel free to see the finished project on further down on my page. Full case study coming soon.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
