Standing an impressive 4 metres tall, this innovative structure proudly showcases our Darney Heritage Stone Bricks alongside @albionstone 's Heritage Portland Stone Bricks. Designed by @hawkins_brown and engineered by @webbyates the arch is an incredible example of the ingenuity and skill involved in modern stone design.

This week, our MD Marcus had the privilege of speaking at the Stone & Surfaces Show on Tuesday to explore a compelling proposition: stone as the sustainable structural material of the future. Moderated by broadcaster and architect George Clarke, brought together leading figures from across architecture, engineering and design.

The discussion centred on the Stone Demonstrator, a 3-storey, low-carbon prototype building at Earls Court, London, developed as part of the Design Museum's Future Observatory initiative. The installation presents structural stone as a credible, sustainable alternative to concrete and steel, utilising pre-tensioned stone blocks connected by tendons for beams and columns. Marcus spoke to the narrative and inspiration behind this ground-breaking project.

Material Palette: The key focus of the project was to design with a regenerative approach, with a highlight on material usage. Keeping a similar aesthetic while considerably decreasing the wider impact of the project. The palette is made up of my own Hemp Tile Cladding System, Hutton Stone Bricks, Glulam Frame and Hemspan’s Bioboard. Reducing their carbon impact by 78% compared to traditional materials while still maintaining a U-Value of 0.124.
