ROOTED PRESENTS: ABOVE GROUND

ROOTED is proud to take over Malmöscenen at this year’s @malmofestivalen , curating a mini festival experience for nearly 10 hours.

Above Ground is where the underground meets the light, a space for the cultural voices who build the city’s cultural scene to take their place at the heart of the festival. We want to highlight what is already alive and thriving in Malmö + Scandinavia, but doesn’t always get space on the bigger stages.

Above Ground is about uplifting voices, creative expression and the power of community, creating encounters where new perspectives, people and music can come together and be seen.

Skinny Gonzales is a visual artist and illustrator based in Malmö. In his playful work, you can spot epic adventures and side quests sprinkle from an everyday life filled with vivid colors and bold lines.

Alice is a multidisciplinary artist, working in different fields. Different scales. Sometimes larger, in room based installations. Other times smaller, in ceramics and illustrations. Inspired by everyday life: a person passing on a bike, the pattern that the sunshine makes on the pavement, a daydreamed scenario. Everything is worth to think about twice.

Nature, water and movement have been sources of inspiration for the installation this Saturday on Rooted.

Rooted in international collaboration and relentless curiosity, HEDO HYDR8 is a shapeshifting force that transforms the dancefoor into a dynamic space for collective transcendence.

HEDO HYDR8 has garnered attention for his mixes on Rinse FM, Peder Mannerfelt's PMx and a guest-slot on ZULI’s on NTS show. His tracks have been recognized by respected selectors like Tom Ravenscroft, CEMs, Ciel, Opium Hum, Salome, DJ SPIT, Peder Mannerfelt among others.

Nibbl3s is Known for an uncompromising selection of underground music, her sets reflect a current state of mind — raw, personal and deeply connected to the moment. Music has long been a driving force and a constant anchor, shaping both sound and approach behind the decks.

Club and back-room venues is where she shaped her relationship to music and the dancefloor. Playing for a crowd is about creating an environment where everyone can be themselves and experience a sense of freedom on their own terms.

Beyond DJing, she is also involved in several collaborative projects that highlight artists, local communities and the culture surrounding them.

These projects serve as a way of giving back to the people and scenes that have left a lasting impact.

DJ Rawel is a producer/DJ from England, residing in Stockholm. His sound as a producer is a blend of club music past and present merged with UK scene he grew up around. DJ Rawel’s productions are emotive, driven and melancholic - paying homage to genres such as UKG, House, Techno and Breakbeat.

As a DJ, Rawel mixes a medley of genres and rhythms in an emphatic way to define his sound. Firmly underground forward and fusing anything from House, Techno, Bass, UKG, Tribal and more to tell a story.

Over the past year DJ Rawel has been a feature in festivals across Sweden such as Gagnef, Way Out West, DunyaFest and is a mainstay in the Stockholm, scene bringing his love for a diverse and driven club sound to many venues and stages.

Who is DJ Klubb Kadaver?

DJ Klubb Kadaver has been a presence in the Malmö–Copenhagen UK bass scene since 2023, steadily refining her sound through exploration of the genre, currently leaning into DnB and jungle.

Known for precise control of energy and pacing, Klubb Kadaver balances light and darkness with intention, using unexpected elements from a wide range of genres while favoring Latin bass, and especially dembow.

Never constrained by genre, she delivers a signature sound built on precision and pressure.
