It’s National Women’s Health Week in the U.S., but supporting women’s health is a global priority. IBCLCs deliver expert lactation care that supports health during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond – improving outcomes for both parents and children worldwide.

Nurses are at the heart of healthcare systems worldwide. Many IBCLCs are also nurses, bringing advanced lactation expertise to clinical settings and strengthening support for families. On International Nurses Day, we celebrate nurses everywhere – and their collaborative care that builds a healthy foundation for families worldwide.

Beyond clinical expertise, parental perceptions of emotional support, safety, and collaboration shape how guidance is received and whether breastfeeding is sustained. Communicating Expertise with Care: Inclusive, Trust-Building Approaches in Lactation Practice explores communication strategies that foster trust and emotional safety, the use of inclusive and accessible language, how to recognise and repair eroded trust, and how to self-reflect and remain aware of bias to promote equitable family-centred lactation care.

Maternal mental health is essential to the well-being of both parents and babies. IBCLCs provide skilled, compassionate lactation care that can ease challenges, build confidence, and support emotional well-being. On World Maternal Mental Health Day, we recognise the vital role that IBCLCs play in supporting families during critical times.

The 2026 International Day of the Midwife theme, “One Million More Midwives,” highlights the need for strong, well-supported peripartum care systems around the world. IBCLCs partner with midwives to deliver specialised lactation care that improves outcomes for families. Today, we celebrate midwives worldwide and the collaborative care that helps families thrive.

Applications are now open for the September 2026 IBCLC examination and for recertification by CERPs!

Examination Application Deadline: Apply to sit the IBCLC examination as an initial or recertifying candidate by June 8, 2026.

Recertification by CERPs: Apply to recertify by CERPs with Continuing Education (CE) Self-Assessment by September 30, 2026.
