Kraft Architects’ Nakamura-san and Sato-san, along with Fukuda-san and Tateishi-san, whom we met through the excavation exhibition, came to visit my house! It’s always incredibly valuable to hear impressions from architects of a similar generation. We took a commemorative photo in the usual spot.

Kraft Architectsの中村さんと佐藤さん、発掘展でご一緒した福田さんと立石さんが、自邸に遊びに来てくださいました！近い世代の建築家に感想もらえるのはとてもありがたい、、！いつもの場所で記念撮影。

Since we were already in Kyushu, Ono-san and I visited the office of Kumamoto’s star architect, Yabashi!@yabashi_architects Even though it was their day off, Uchida-san kindly welcomed us, and we ended up spending a full two hours talking about architecture. We also had the chance to tour the Eguchi House. Over incredible hamburgers, we were treated to a special lecture on the house itself — such a luxurious and inspiring time. Learned a lot!

せっかく九州に来たので、小野さんと熊本の星・建築家の矢橋さんの事務所に！お休みの日なのにスタッフの内田さんと快く出迎えてくださり、たっぷり２時間建築談義。江津ハウスも見学させていただきました！絶品ハンバーガーを食べながら、江津ハウスレクチャーと贅沢なひと時。。勉強させていただきました！

It was the award ceremony for the Kyushu Architecture Awards! With Ono-san, who received the Work Award. I’m truly happy that the attitude of the Pyramid Hut toward Okinawa’s regional character and culture was recognized and appreciated.

The Suginami House went through a lot of twists and turns, but it has finally been completed! This project began under the constraint of not being able to use reinforced concrete, but some new experiments worked out well, and I think we were able to create something really good. Most importantly, the client was very happy, which was a huge relief.

This house also marks the 10th residence designed by IGA. As always, there are many things to reflect on and improve, but every project is genuinely enjoyable, and once again it reminded me that this is the kind of work I want to keep doing for a long time.

杉並の家、なんやかんや盛り上がりましたが、無事竣工しました！RCを封じられて臨んだプロジェクトですが、新しい試みもうまくいって、いいものができたと思います。クライアントさんも喜んでくださって一安心。この住宅が、IGAで設計した10戸目の住宅です。相変わらず反省点はたくさんあるけれど、毎回とても楽しくて、改めてずっと続けたい仕事だと思いました！

Some of the students who joined us as interns continue to visit the office regularly even after their internships end. They come for all kinds of reasons — design critiques for their studio projects, career advice, or simply to talk. I feel like I gain energy from them as well, and their visits always lift my spirits. It’s also a quiet joy to watch the students I’ve met through these connections continue to grow and develop.

インターンに来てくれた学生さんの中には、インターン終了後も定期的に事務所に来てくれる子がいます。課題のエスキスや進路相談など、目的いろいろですが、僕も学生さんからエネルギーをもらっている気がして元気になります。縁あって繋がった学生のみんなが、成長していくのを見るのも密かな楽しみ。

The Katsushika project site. The calm before the storm. Things are about to get busy again from here…

We hold monthly meetings with the client—not only to check on the progress of the construction, but also to talk about everyday things and catch up on life. Sometimes those unrelated conversations lead to new ideas. It’s always a meaningful and enjoyable time, spending a little while alongside clients as they imagine their new life ahead, thinking together about what they want to do and how they want to live.

Really looking forward to the completion.

葛飾の現場。嵐の前の静けさ。こっからまた忙しくなりそう、、。クライアントさんとは月に一回定例をやっています。現場の状況を確認することもですが、世間話や近況など、関係ない話も。そこから生まれる新しいこともあるし、新しい生活に想いを馳せるクライアントさんに少しの間寄り添い、こうしたい、あれもしたいと想いを巡らせるのはとても楽しい時間です。竣工が楽しみです。

I came to Aichi for a site visit and contract signing for a new project. It’s my first project in Aichi in nearly ten years — a project I’ve long hoped to realize. By a wonderful connection, the client who commissioned me is actually someone I worked with about five years ago. I’m truly happy and grateful to have the opportunity to work together again!

新しいプロジェクトの現調と契約で愛知にきました。愛知での仕事は10年近くぶり、念願の愛知でのプロジェクトです。縁あって依頼くださったクライアントさんとは実は５年くらい前に一緒に仕事した仲。依頼くださってまたご一緒できるのが、本当に嬉しい！

Through a fortunate connection, I had the opportunity to visit Houses, the architect’s own residence by Yasuyuki Unemori. I was deeply impressed by how such a rich and diverse spatial experience could be created with so little manipulation of floor levels. Since many of the projects I’m currently working on have, in one way or another, been influenced by this house, I’m truly grateful I was able to experience it in person.

縁あって、建築家・畝森泰行さんの自邸Housesを見学させていただきました！床の操作をほとんど行わずに、これだけ豊かで多様な場所をつくれるのかー、、と感激。今進めているプロジェクトの多くは少なからずこの住宅に影響を受けているだけに、見学できて本当によかった！
