In our concluding post about our project made for @sonusfaberofficial we would like to share some more images of design process and methodologies we used for form-finding and optimization.
Working in collaboration with our client, we proposed multiple different approaches - starting from parametric modeling based on various hand sketches and ending up with a more generative approach, when the shape was defined purely by structural and acoustic performance. Parametric workflows and using grasshopper was essential for our working process and producing multiple design iterations to choose from.
For the final design a combination of both these techniques was chosen, but a human-guided design and aesthetics remained paramount.
It was also very exciting to be guided by the high class acoustic and manufacturing professionals from the client’s side and learn about sound and product design from the experts in that field.

We are glad to share the final result of our work for @sonusfaberofficial .
After the initial round of design iterations afused design has emerged.
Maintaining an elegant shape, respecting acoustic and structural performance and considering manufacturing technique was a big challenge, however after a couple of rounds of adjustment and optimization we achieved a shape that was ready for casting.
This organically-shaped speaker basket is implemented in the most recent collection of Sonus Faber sound systems.
