Hey Minnesota Filmmakers! We have a narrow window to change the future of production in Minnesota. If we can update just a handful of our film incentive policies this legislative session, Minnesota can easily go from a regional afterthought to one of the most competitive production programs in North America. That means real work at real scale, flowing through crews,
vendors, and post houses.

The Minnesota Film Alliance is how that future gets locked in, but only if we act fast. Our preferred policy changes include a 45% maximum credit and significantly lower spend minimums. They’re ambitious, they’re competitive, and they reflect how production actually works today. Actor, producer and MFA Vice-president Matt Olson relates to challenging times for Minnesota crew and the push for changing our tax credit program to create more opportunites. Let's bring more projects to our state and keep our talented industry professionals busy!

In a packed room of Minnesota’s film leaders, MFA VP Matt Olson took the mic at the 2026 MN WIFT Annual Meeting to make the case for what comes next.

He outlined our push to modernize the film incentive by moving to a much more competitive base credit and lowering spend thresholds so commercial and mid-budget projects can qualify and turn already allocated dollars into real, steady work for Minnesota crews.

Huge thanks to MN WIFT for convening such a thoughtful, engaged (and fun) event. Organizations like MN WIFT are essential to building a strong, inclusive production ecosystem, and we are excited to keep collaborating so more work lands here and more Minnesotans are shaping the stories told about our amazing state.
