From my first extended multi-state photo outing.

An album I listened to often on those early roamings
was Dylan’s fantastic DESIRE (1976). A perfect road record. And one I revisit regularly.

Happy 85th to one of my biggest influences.

Dennis Hopper, another of my favorite
actors, as well as one of my favorite photographers, would have been 90 today.

Pictured here is me showing Mr. Hopper the
large format 8x10 B&W Polaroid portrait I’d just made
of him in his backyard in Venice for Anthem magazine.

The article ran in the Fall 2008 issue of the magazine.

Thank you to @dustinbeatty for the opportunity.
Photographing Mr. Hopper was certainly a highlight.

As a longtime fan of James Dean’s, I had always
wanted to make it out to Fairmount, Indiana, and visit the town he grew up in from age 9 until moving back to Los Angeles after High School.

Thanks to the kind folks at the @thejamesdeanmuseum,
I was able to visit the Winslow family farm where Dean lived for those ten years. Incredible property.

And in this photograph, made while standing inside the barn Dean had hung a basketball hoop for practicing (the hoop is still there as it was), the beautiful farmhouse is seen in the distance. Dean’s room was top left window.

Stunning, idyllic farmland out that way. And I would highly recommend a visit to the JD museum.
