How do you unify a UI across vehicles, command centers, and character HUDs?
For TRON: ARES, the answer was: puppeteering rods.
My last post was the highest-reaching post I’ve ever shared. Thanks to everyone who shared and jumped into the comments. ✨🙌✨
This week kicks off a deeper breakdown of how I start any spatial UI project. I look for a unifying theme, then build the UI from real-world, physical reference.
We begin with the concepts behind
The Dillinger Systems Light UI for TRON: ARES.

I served as UI Design Lead/Director and Ul System Architect on
TRON: ARES, designing the core Ul languages that span every character, vehicle, and machine across 260+ shots.
Excited we can finally share it!
This work was brought to life by an incredible VFX/GFX team we built from scratch, led by @GMUNK.
TRON: ARES is NOW streaming!
Follow for full design breakdowns coming up with our Motion Director Darby Faccinto.

We loved you for a lifetime, and will miss you just as long. 🩷
Last week we said goodbye to Bella – our baby, our best friend & the heart of our home for over 17 years. We want to thank everyone that’s sent their love.
“Bella Beast” met every challenge with her unstoppable spirit and joyful energy.
She bounced along on morning walks, breaking into a full sprint on the final stretch. She loved being outside, but loved home just as much—racing in to claim her fave cozy spot.
That was Bella: full of life, full of love, always up for an adventure.
She was the ultimate cuddle bug, happiest in our arms, chest, or cheek to cheek—because to Bella, ‘too close’ didn’t exist.
She had just the right amount of sass— protecting us from any “threats” with the least-threatening bark you’ve ever heard (except during scary movies—then we were on our own.)
She was fiercely loving and loyal. When Jayse was sick for months, she never left his side.
She was exceptionally smart. Beyond tricks (she learned all we could think of), we just understood each other—communicating in a language that was ours alone.
Everywhere we went, people knew and loved her. From LA, to Sedona (her fave), to the beach, and endless lunch dates — she was the brightest part of our fave memories.
Feb 14th, to celebrate 1 yr being cancer free, we made plans for sunsets, summer road trips and many sniff-centric adventures.
However, this was not to be. Last Wednesday, at 11:42am, we said goodbye.
We had a vet come to the house. We settled in Bella’s favorite spot: on our bed. The doors were open, a gentle breeze drifting in, candles flickering softly, birds singing.
Jayse beside me, Bella laid on my chest, gazing into our eyes. We told her just how much momma & daddy love her, as she gently drifted to sleep. It was peaceful. It was beautiful.
I hope that everyone gets to experience a deep love like we had with Bella.
It feels impossible to move forward without her. But if I know anything, it’s that she wouldn’t want us to ever stop snuggling, stop playing, or stop loving life like she did.
In time, we’ll find ways to honor her and keep her memory alive.
But right now, we’re just missing her.
💔

Working daily with the genius "Spock" at Lockheed Martin Skunkworks, I designed several levels for this sequence so they could film and cut to the screens as the levels progressed:
A: Situation Normal
B: Temp Hot 2992°+
C: Over Temp 3269°+
D: Over Max Temp 3497°+
E: Uh oh... 3508°
Was cool to see the markings on the Matchbox toy (swipe) and it was a true joy to work with a luscious UI base by my wingman @nicolaslopardo and this sexy AF jet design by @danielsimondesign and @lockheedmartin

After four years, it’s great to see this response! 🙌
I see people writing things like “I give it a Mach 10/10” 🤣
For those interested I’ll be sharing some design work of the cockpits and mission control screens from the sequences when I can.

My very first shot on this film. I sat down and pulled up a "clean plate" featuring all my childhood heroes gathered around an empty space that needed to become a 'hologram' of the Starkiller Base. - tbd - to be designed. GO!
C-3PO, R2D2, Chewbacca, Han Solo, Admiral Ackbar and Princess Leia were all gazing intently at empty air. Talking about it. Gesturing to it. Walking around it. Cracking jokes about it.
"So, it's big." ~ Han Solo.
All I had to do was fill it.
Brainstorming with VFX Supervisor Roger Guyett and Andrew Kramer, we wanted to keep it lo-fi and low-tech. And, fitting the Star Wars world I love, I wanted it slightly grungy-dirty, yet detailed enough to not stand out as cartoon-y or overly 'digital'.
Swipe to see initial concepts drawn on paper and the @conceptsapp app on the iPad.
This was both a planet AND a Death Star, so I referenced both traditional cartography techniques and Death Star tech from previous films.
When JJ Abrams first saw the close up pointing shot, he said, "I hope you snuck all your names in there."
I did all exterior graphic details in @adobe Illustrator as an 8k texture. I designed custom Aurabesh fonts in Fontlab Studio and FontArk. I did the 3d modeling in @maxon_cinema4d. I set the golden frames and then final stereo compositing and animation was done in @adobe_aftereffects with legendary @andrewkramer and team using #Element3D. And I typically use too many @aescripts to name along the way for workflow speed!
Last two images are of our meetings and our shot schedule whiteboard.
Good times!
Shout out to the SW team: @andrewkramer @dustinhud Seth McDonald @brianmarksales @navparker @ryan_wieber @brandon.flyte

Being asked to do the typography and opening logo of perhaps one of the most iconic film-openers in film history was both terrifying and ultimate-bucket-list-level-spectacular!
At 10 years old, Star Wars was the film that made me first dream of doing films. And when that big logo hits the screen to John Williams' famous blast of the horns and that epic title crawl starts receding into the stars you know you're in for an epic adventure.
Working with legendary @andrewkramer at Bad Robot, with ILM raw source captures of the original titles from the archives of Episode IV, V and VI, we built in every detail, from the wobble and unsteady pacing of the original camera movement, to the vibrant orange color fringing on the letters, to the way they disappear in the distance, to the blueish star field and perfect cinematic grain.
There's an amazing amount of variation in the Star Wars logo if you compare the original episode IV to V and VI, which were, quite literally cut into paper for light to pass through.
My assignment was to retain that perfect imperfection, while updating it in the smallest of ways to make it representative of the new trilogy to come.
Originally I did a version of the Episode IV version of the logo. But, by special request from JJ Abrams, the final version I did is referenced from the Empire Strikes Back version, which we all felt really nailed it compared to all other opening crawls. (I was also able to preserve the correct original title font, rather than the mistaken font introduced with Return of the Jedi. We wanted to really take it back to the original pure design of the first movies.)
I have many more stories about fun 2am ILM meetings, fonts and font arguments, optically-stretched-kerning, widows/orphans, "typographically-speaking", and many all-nighters to get these perfect, AND also delivered on time. (kinda...)
For now I'll just say, May the Fourth Be With You and Happy Star Wars Day!

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
