🛍️Just finished my week long pop-up at John Lewis. Phew! What an experience! Thank you all who came to see me, you guys really made my week! And thanks to @johnlewis_welwyn for making me feel so welcome.

I received so many compliments on what I was doing, rescuing and reducing discarded textiles and bringing them new life. It was amazing to meet people who understand the issues surrounding textile waste♻️ and willing to learn and do more. That's a wrap folks! See you next time Welwyn!

Being half Japanese, sometimes I can't help parts of my culture seeping into my designs.

👘I think the kimono is one of the most beautiful garments in the world and its details have found their way into the collection in this new upcycled iteration.

It's my best selling style and always a joy to make as it's always a surprise how the shirring will play with the stripes, plaids, or florals. #kimonoshirt

I'm really hoping to help bring the concept of circular fashion, specifically the practice of re-making, reworking, upcycling, to the mainstream to show that good quality, modern, stylish pieces made from existing materials can compete with and replace buying brand new. 92 million tons of textile waste are produced every year. There's no need to buy new when we already have literally tons of discarded material to reuse and bring new life to.

📣I have a pretty huge announcement to make. I'm so excited to say that Jetti will be popping up at John Lewis 11-17 May at Welwyn Garden City! 🔥

I'll be in women's fashion in the Style Studio on the 1st floor. 👗

The entire collection is made from discarded textiles, including charity shop rejects, damaged garments, deadstock, and off cuts. It's so nice seeing a major retailer like John Lewis take a chance on my brand and getting on the upcycling train. ♻️

Part 2 of the series Traid Raid where I take a damaged garment donated by Traid and bring it back to life♻️. This one was a great quality Ralph Lauren men's shirt👔. It was stained and a little grubby, but a thorough wash and some stain remover, got it back to a near perfect state🧼🧺. I turned this into my best-selling style which I call the Kimono Corset. It cinches you in like a corset and has the voluminous sleeves of a kimono.

This item has SOLD. It actually sold while I was in the process of making this reel, but I had to post anyway!

I was lucky enough to get a tour of the Traid warehouse and saw what is involved in collecting and sorting London's second hand clothing 👕🩳. Can you believe they can sort through 8 tons of clothing per day? 💪Their goal is to sort through 50 tons of clothing per week! Although their process does utilize high tech equipment, all the clothing passes through human hands and is sorted manually. I asked them what was the one thing they wanted everyone to know about what they do and they responded by saying they are a CHARITY RETAILER, not a WASTE COLLECTOR 🚮. They receive loads of damaged, stained, and unfit clothing that they cannot resell which ultimately gets sent out to be downcycled or sent to energy recovery (burned!) 🔥. Please donate your used clothing with this in mind! 👗

My journey into upcycling started about two years ago when I saw that my father was getting rid of about 50 of his old button down shirts 👔. I decided to take them home with me to experiment to see if I could transform them into modern, wearable, and interesting pieces. These are some of those pieces.

Some of these designs I've kept in the collection and have used them on other shirts. Some experiments were a success✨. And others...not so much 🙅🏻‍♀️. Onward and upward though. The experiments in upcycling will continue!
