Layout is more than just connecting wires.

Many people think PCB Layout simply involves connecting components using traces. But a truly reliable circuit design goes far beyond that. Take high-speed circuits, for example. During the layout phase, we need to consider the following:
⚡ Signal integrity: Ensure differential pairs have equal lengths and that traces have controlled impedance to prevent signal distortion.
🔁 Power integrity: Place decoupling capacitors close to the circuits they serve to reduce power noise.
📡 EMC considerations: Keep sensitive signals away from sources of interference, and ensure the ground plane remains intact without divisions.

Why odd-layer PCBs make fab engineers nervous 🚫

Let’s bust a myth: it’s not actually about the odd or even layer count itself.
The real culprit? Stackup Symmetry.
When copper weights, prepregs, or dielectric layers aren’t perfectly balanced across the center core:
📈 Stress builds up during lamination
🥔 Boards warp like potato chips after reflow
🤦‍♂️ Assembly becomes a nightmare (hello, solder defects and coping issues)

So no, a 5-layer PCB isn’t inherently "bad." It only becomes risky when the stackup is unbalanced. In manufacturing, asymmetry is the enemy.
