This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of seeing my longtime friend Jim Vetter perform his show Keeping Secrets as part of the Boston Fringe Theater Festival.

Jim and I go all the way back to when we were kids, so watching him on stage brought with it something more than entertainment for me. It was a reminder of what happens when someone continues to honor their craft, curiosity, and unique voice over a lifetime.

What struck me most about Keeping Secrets was how authentic it is.

Nothing felt forced.Nothing felt manufactured.

Just a talented performer completely present with his audience, sharing mystery, humor, storytelling, and genuine human connection.

What also deeply moved me was Jim’s courage in sharing such a personal story involving abuse within the world of magic. I was around during much of the time these experiences were taking place, which made the show especially powerful and emotional for me to witness.

Jim spoke openly, honestly, and truthfully about painful experiences that many people would never have the courage to address publicly. That level of vulnerability takes enormous strength.

And through it all, he handled the material with dignity, intelligence, and heart.

I have no doubt audiences at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe are going to deeply appreciate this show later this year.

Congratulations, Jim. I’m proud of you, grateful for the friendship, and very happy to see audiences experiencing your story.
