Last year a piece I made was released on @strongwindsrecords compilation dust.grains.points. The piece marked a pretty big shift in how I make music where concept plays a role in guiding composition alongside improvisation and aesthetic decisions in a way that I mostly reserved for my professional work. 7ths are my friend. I can’t ever seem to get enough 7s (Also 9s). 3 looping Intervals in c major floating around one another w/ occasional eye contact in the 1980’s teen movie library + goofy lil melody on a flutey synth.

Started messing around with an old sample that had been destroyed on a mini cassette dictaphone and this happened 🤷 💫 🧭

There’s only 2 samples being used here total and one is only doing the deep kick sound. All the other percussive stuff is still coming from the tape loop of orchestral sounds. Pretty wild what digitakt can do in terms of sample mangling.

Fractional phase music, I’ve been messing around with a melody, dividing and multiplying it in tempo and/or pitch and shortening and lengthening and layering it. It’s been a fun set of parameters for coming up with more extended compositions.
Using the #digitakt as sequencer and the #dsitetra by #davesmithinstruments as the tone gen here. The 4 voice limitation of the #tetra has proven to add extra interest (to me) as more sequences are added, voices are stolen and the longer notes get truncated.Pushed through the #strymon #bigsky for
