The weather in NY has been such a mix bagged lately and I’m loving the range. It reminds me of autumns in Portland (except better because we’re heading into summer).

I’ve always liked The Whole Bowl’s tagline. And my favorite morning sweet is at the end.

I have perceiv’d that to be with those I like is enough,

To stop in company with the rest at evening is enough,

To be surrounded by beautiful, curious, breathing, laughing flesh is enough,

To pass among them or touch any one, or rest my arm ever so lightly round his or her neck for a moment, what is this then?

I do not ask any more delight, I swim in it as in a sea.

There is something in staying close to men and women and looking on them, and in the contact and odor of them, that pleases the soul well,

All things please the soul, but these please the soul well.

See the pink in my cheeks? It’s the sign of a nourishing nap, and in the fall of 2022, I lost the ability to take one. At first, I wasn’t concerned; this was a logical consequence after having lost my spirit. But when that came back and my sense of rest didn’t, I started to freak out because sleep is my superpower and this was a first. My desperation would have me opening my phone after every nap, hoping to see pink (even though I had never needed my phone to tell me before).

I was into my second month of unsatisfactory sleep and passing thru LA on my way back from Hearst Castle when a friend told me to cancel my airbnb and stay with her. I got to her apartment that afternoon, took a nap, and lo and behold, my color came back(!), as this selfie shows.

In many ways, I’ve taken care of myself for most of my adult life. I don’t say this to complain; independence is a privilege. But there are moments, especially tough ones, when what’s needed isn’t my own strength, it’s someone else’s. In this instance, I think the sense of welcome and belonging gave me the safety I needed to let my guard down and finally rest.

Sleep is as much a lifeline to me as it is my superpower. It keeps me grounded through the highs, comforts me through the lows, and powers everything in between. Nothing sorts my thoughts and emotions quite like it. When I’m stuck, I sleep. Sad, I sleep. Spiraling, I sleep. And when I need to tap into the optimist in me, well…for that, I dream.

It’s why this photo isn’t worth a thousand words; it’s worth a thousand dreams.

Uploading IG carousels does weird things to my photos; ugh. Anyway, this is the last Hearst Castle post and it’s from Oct 2022.

See the glass tiles on the tennis court? They light the Roman Pool below the court (second photo).

This is the part of Hearst Castle I think about most because of the many contrasting elements between the court and pool, and yet they’re designed to be connected.

Also, the chairs. I like the chairs.

OCT 2022 // I don’t like these photos all that much but absolutely loved this day.

Once I moved to the west coast, Hearst Castle quickly hit the bucket list, though getting to this day was as much of a journey as getting to the site itself. This place is equidistantly 4 hours from SF and LA, and I originally planned to go a week after we found ourselves in a pandemic 🫠

But this day was worth my two-and-a-half year wait. There’s so much to say that I don’t know where to begin, so I’ll just leave you with where my thoughts always end: to me, Hearst Castle (along with Disneyland/World and La Sagrada Familia) are large-scale examples of what comes from learning the fundamentals, blending interests, having enough comfort to share a unique POV, and committing to a continuous and evolving dialogue with people for long enough so that the world can understand.

Reverence is ultimately the word that comes to mind.

On a separate note, with the discontinuation of the penny, people have asked what it’s really worth; it’s worth the memories.

OCT 2022 // “You must keep your mind on the objective, not the obstacle.” - William Randolph Hearst

Hearst Castle is one man’s vision brought to life through one woman’s commitment to a collaboration that spanned 28 obstacle-filled years.

Perched a third of a mile above sea level, it was originally named La Cuesta Encantada (The Enchanted Hill) for reasons that were easily understood upon arrival.

As for the song, it took me a dozen tries to find this exact version of the song that was playing on the 15 min, windy drive up.

I love me some grunge and beauty, so much so that it’s my work phone wallpaper. I don’t know which version - Taiwan, 90s alternative, or New York - first made me weak, but they all do now.

Can one of you wonderful nerds tell me about the little🌪️? And can another put into words what healing is as a feeling? I’m having trouble finding them, in me and the wild.

The feeling is not of love, but the trust that comes before a willingness to. A radiating energy that’s equally barely-there in how it extends from my chest through my arms, and awe-like. And while healing from a deep wound can take time, the active feeling is usually brief - as quick as a long breath and as slow as a sunrise.

I took these photos within five minutes of each other while on a flight out of Portland. Even now, I’m touched by how calming and vibrant the blue hues are, especially in the last photo (tho IG uploads don’t do it justice).

Someone told me yesterday that I’m consistently so thoughtful, and I said it just translates to being frequently disappointed. I’m grateful to be so aware this healing feeling, the way it lightens life’s load so I can approach it with a restored sense of self. That matters more than if I ever find deserving words.

SEPT 2022 // Madison, WI

Seeing Rachel after 9(!) years was always the point. But when what I long imagined (like being in town for Saturdays on the Square) didn’t happen, I just trusted what was supposed to instead.

A life size playhouse?!!! An incredibly coincidental evening with Pete Souza. A choppy water sunset. A delectable Cornish pastry. And a dome with peeks of the sky that caught my attention.

Rachel and I were lucky enough to not have to wait another 9 years; the first photo is from June 2024, which I’m posting out of order because videos still make the IG mixed photo orientations glitchy.

It had been over 20 years between the first time I visited Madison and this one, and this is one of many instances of late where it’s been interesting to reconcile childhood memories before seeing much of the world with ones now. Oh context, how key.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
