Sustainability comes to life through a range of high-performance systems, including energy recovery ventilation, demand-controlled systems using CO₂ and occupancy sensors, LED lighting with daylighting controls, and occupancy-based HVAC strategies. These building-level solutions are amplified by the university’s campus-wide infrastructure, which utilizes a biomass-powered central utility plant alongside solar and wind energy to support overall performance.

A defining feature of the project is the integration of rooftop solar panels on Brooks Hall. By leveraging its south-facing roof to pre-heat domestic hot water, the design demonstrates how targeted interventions can contribute to both system-wide efficiency and a visible commitment to sustainability on campus.

This #EarthDay, we’re thinking beyond individual features and focusing on systems-level impact—because the future of sustainable design depends on the choices made today.
