Five years ago today, @kjberger was diagnosed with breast cancer.She is lion.Modern medicine is a miracle.We celebrate and we are grateful beyond words.

I always say Israel is Home.And it is for the Jewish people.This week has been inspiring and humbling.Talking to twenty somethings who have served for 300+ days in Gaza and haven’t lost their optimism, hope for peace and sense of humor.Today we got a tiny glimpse of how hard life is here. First some bomb shelter time as the Houthis launched missiles and then on our drive to Jerusalem everything came to a halt and we sat in traffic for 3 hours as we watched the bomb squad detonate a roadside bomb that had been placed. I am awed by the strength and resiliency of Israelis.This is a fight of good versus evil. It is that simple.

I am back.

Almost 3 weeks ago, I was the very unfortunate victim of a gas fire pit explosion.I received extensive burns on over 15% of my body including my two legs and right hand.I spent the last 2 weeks in the @weillcornell burn center.To say that the last 2 weeks has been difficult and painful is an extreme understatement.I went through things including multiple skin grafts that I don’t wish on anyone.

This said, I sit at home today overwhelmed by love and gratitude.I was lucky it wasn’t worse.I was lucky that I alone was injured and that the many others around our home in Nantucket were uninjured.I have again learned the true meaning of love and being Lion from @kjberger who has been by my side unendingly and witnessed unbearable pain, breakdowns and has now become an incredible burn center nurse.I am overwhelmed by the love from my boys (@aden_berger@_micahberger @ollieberger_ ) and dear friends who are family and too many to mention (including the incredible @ames_watson family). Words will never ever be able to fully describe the love and respect I have for my business partner @rip8654 who triaged getting me care at midnight on a Saturday night and snuck beers into the hospital for me….and also has been a constant source of encouragement.

I am humbled to tears by the incredible giving, support and love from the staff at the @weillcornell burn center.From an incredible Doctor (Phil) who went above and beyond to nurses (Lauren, Paige, Kevin, Oscar) who I will simply never forget.People who while doing their job every day showed so much humanity and care that I cry thinking about them.A special thanks to the incredible people at Atria.org who organized my care.

There is a road to go but I AM BACK.After @kjberger’s cancer a few years ago, I’ve prided myself on having the right priorities, balance and valuing each day and each moment.Well world, you ain’t seen nothing yet—there’s going to be more hugging, more crying, more kisses and yes I’m going to change the world even more than before.L’Chaim.I’m just fucking getting started.
