_sending ripples to you_This was the 3rd streetlight dance I did while on the unforgettable Norway trip with @thats__sid in fall 2024. This was filmed at/in lake #Freavnanjaervrei and damn were my feet cold. Perfectionism kept me from posting this at the time, but recently I thought of it and watched it again for the first time in about a year. Seeing it again filled with warmth. It's one of the first videos where I created the music myself, as apposed to downloading something. It gave me the chance to craft something a bit more intentional and in the style I'm slowly trying to grow. I remember back then having really lovely feedback sessions with @erinmclarin as the feeling of this particular video was inspired by her graduation fashion show. Thanks sis!

This is my latest project for an upcoming raku firing. If all goes well this lantern can house a small tea light. After the first attempt failed, I took what I learned and tried again. I managed to make a lantern in 3 parts that slot into each other. They will now be bisque fired to 1000C and then glazed with special raku crackle glaze. I hope to bring my camera to that communal firing next Sunday. #streetlight #pottery #ceramiclantern

Pottery notes 01 ~ small ripple vase

The past months I’ve mainly been exploring shapes and forms. I want my pots to feel soft, friendly, and inviting to those who look at them. I want the pots to “hug back” and embrace the fingers that hold them. At the same time, I love water and the ocean. I love how you can see energy passing through water in the form of swell or ripples. These two reasons have had me making all kinds of variations of what I’m calling rippleware.

I filmed this throwing and trimming session for another big reason. This was my first time using tungsten carbide trimming tools. Gadsby likened using them to driving a sports car, and I have to say, it was pretty awesome. With the slightest bit of pressure, I felt the tools cut into the clay, and I found myself enjoying the trimming process much more than usual.

It’s been around 8 months since I began practicing pottery, and these small vases are an excellent benchmark for my current ability to throw (gradually) taller cylinders. I recently got a new batch of pots from the kiln, and I can’t wait to share some of the other shapes I’m exploring. #Pottery #potterynotes #handmadevase #crafts #howto

A ceramic vase squeezed and bolted by a metal screw... This week I'm sharing a story of one of Fiorenzo's special pieces. If you live in Delft it's being displayed in the window of Choorstraat 38 @potterijonderdemoerbeiboom . He created it in collaboration with one of his students @vries.hedwich who created the organic, bark-like panels. I couldn’t resist using my birthday as an excuse to share what I’ve been most passionate about the past half year. I’ve discovered my deep love for pottery! I have so much more to share about my introduction to the world of clay and ceramics from the past year, but I’ll start with this:
I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Fiorenzo from @potterijonderdemoerbeiboom . I’ve been helping him create short films about the beauty and power of clay. How clay isn’t only an outlet for creative expression, but also allow you to grow mentally and spiritually as a person. People often joke about pottery being therapeutic, but that’s something he believes very deeply. It has been a therapy for himself, and he’s seen it change his students. In the coming weeks I’ll share more videos that have come out of our collaboration. This one is about me, but there are also videos showcasing incredibly cool pottery pieces and other stories relating to clay. Couldn’t be more grateful for all that Potterij Onder de Moerbeiboom has given me, and I hope to give back through this video series.
