Short version of my coverage from Wasteland Jamboree in Sutton, West Virginia ☢️

Part convention, part street fair — all set deep in the hills of West Virginia. From power armor and raiders to vendors, live entertainment, and some incredible handmade props and costumes, this event really felt like stepping into the wasteland.

🧛‍♂️ Got to catch Count Gore De Vol live at AFI for a screening of The Fly — such a great experience.

I had never seen this 1980s body horror classic on the big screen before, and it absolutely still holds up. The practical effects, the slow transformation… all of it hits just as hard today. You can really see how modern horror—especially films like The Substance—pull inspiration from this kind of storytelling.

It’s always a treat seeing the Count in person, and the clips from his show added that perfect nostalgic touch to the night.

Nothing beats watching a classic like this with a crowd of horror fans. 🪰
