Saturday is concert night! I can't tell you how excited I am for this. Since Crossroads' first performance in April, I've been blown away by the encouragement and interest in this little project.
We'll see if we can top our debut...all I can say is we've got some great music to share. It's a gift to sing with these talented folks - and lending some choral harmonies to @elevenbunnies tunes is so much fun. Michigan friends, hope to see you there at @christchurchdetroit !

A week from tomorrow is the **debut concert** of a new choir project in Detroit that I'm organizing! I'm THRILLED (...and also firmly in the "what have I gotten myself into" stage, feeling all the feelings).
The ensemble (or the concert, or both?) is called "Crossroads," highlighting the ways in which we're connected. I've been thinking of this word not only as a point we encounter that requires urgency and action (which may come to mind for many of us), but moreso as a place where people are brought together from many different origins, carrying with us varied backgrounds, in different points on our journeys. When we reach a crossroads we exchange perspectives; we share our experiences, we collaborate, we create.
During this performance five directors will conduct (we'll also sing conductor-less), and we'll feature the music of three composers who are singing in the ensemble (including a world premiere!!). We'll perform works representing wide-ranging styles, eras, composer identities, and places, celebrating how these threads run through our own community of Detroit. In just a short time, I've been floored by the ways that all of these fantastic humans have contributed and come together - it feels like the spirit of what I hoped to encourage is already thriving. It's been a uplifting start - we'll see where it goes from here.

What an amazing first experience singing with @audiviensemble! Thank you to this collection of fantastic humans and musicians for making this whirlwind week such a delight. The shocking twist...they trusted me with taking the pre-concert selfie?? 🤔
One last fill-in gig two nights ago, and holiday singing 2023 is in the books. Now for catching my breath and getting healthy. It's been a wonderful month of musicmaking, including year one with the crew at Eagle Tavern. Grateful for all my musical friends and wishing everyone some well-earned rest!

Meet the Composer! On Tuesday night we had the honor of having composer Mike Rowan come up from DC to see ECMC debut his powerful work “Keep Close the Ghosts of Memphis” in NYC.
Mike touched on some pivotal moments in the piece that greatly influenced our performance. We and our audience were very moved by this piece that highlights the struggle for human dignity in a troubled world during the Civil Rights Movement (and still today).
Here is Mike with our Artistic Director @vincejamespeterson and our two soloists (and board members) @wepowell and @thatveganjeremy standing with Mike “arm in arm, hand in hand”!
