We're having a party and you're invited 🪩

MSDx Winter: In the making will take you on a rare behind-the-scenes look at how our built environment gets made. Revealing the raw, risky and real work of design.

The Glyn Davis Building will once again transform into a creative laboratory of student projects that are conceptual, experimental, sometimes messy – but always meaningful.

Be the first to experience the exhibition on opening night from 5:45–9pm, 25 June. Register for free food, drinks, DJs, workshops and talks. More at link in bio. #MSDxWinter

Behind the scenes of this past week.

Opening this Saturday as part of Melbourne Design Week is Alison Page: Creative Shape Shifter. In her first solo exhibition, Alison offers an early glimpse of House of BLAK, which invites a collective of First Nations artists and designers to bring Australia’s history and place-based stories to life.

Running from this Saturday 16 May - 1 July, in The Design Gallery, Glyn Davis Building.

Exhibition curated by Alison Page and A/Prof Jillian Walliss.

This exhibition has been made possible through the generous support of ClarkeHopkinsClarke Architects, Tilt Industrial Design, and Breville. We gratefully acknowledge their ongoing commitment to design, innovation, and creative practice.

🦗☀️ All around the world, one of the first signs of summer is the evening song of the cricket – but the song is more than a familiar sound; it is also a signal of a healthy ecosystem.

As part of the Venice Biennale arts festival, 'The Song of the Cricket' reintroduced the Adriatic Marbled Bush-Cricket to Venice lagoons via floating habitats, creating both art an installation and ecological experiment, offering a new model for conservation, where art, design and science work together to restore ecological relationships.

This project, led by ABP, involves an interdisciplinary team from FEIT, Science and FFAM, and is one of five worldwide to be shortlisted for the Architizer A+Awards Popular Choice Vote in this category.

This project was developed by a team of Australian and Italian partners, led by Professor Alexander Felson and the UEDLAB, in partnership with entomologist Dr Filippo M. Buzzetti from the Fondazione Museo Civico di Rovereto in Italy and the Living Insect Museum Esapolis of the Province of Padova, led by Enzo Moretto, managed by Kheprica APS and Butterfly Arc Srl.

Where design meets culture, story and impact.

In 2016, Alison Page partnered with Breville to bring Indigenous art and the world’s oldest living food culture into the heart of the home through an Aboriginal Culinary Journey range.

Developed in collaboration with artists Yukultji Napangati, Yalti Napangati, Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri and Lucy Simpson, the collection celebrates ancestral art through contemporary kitchen design.

More than appliances, this range created meaningful pathways for recognition and opportunity. Each artist retained copyright of their work, received royalties from every product sold, and 100% of profits were donated by Breville to initiatives creating opportunities for Indigenous Australians.

View part of an Aboriginal Culinary Journey range in our new exhibition Alison Page: Creative Shape Shifter from Saturday 16 May – Wednesday 1 July. Tap the link in bio for more information.

Last week, Kjetil Trædal Thorsen, co‑founder of @Snohetta, spoke at #UniMelb for the first time.

The lecture explored how architecture and design can act as catalysts for cultural transformation and social sustainability, Thorsen introduced the evolving history and guiding philosophy of the global architecture and design practice.

Founded in Oslo in 1989 and inspired by the UN’s Our Common Future report, Snøhetta is built on the belief that design and architecture can strengthen the relationship between people, nature, and the built environment.

Honouring the legacy of Enrico Taglietti, as we mark what would have been his 100th birthday – a visionary whose work helped shape Melbourne’s architectural identity.

From the bold, sculptural presence of St Kilda Library to his broader body of work, Taglietti redefined how we experience public space – embracing raw materials, light and layered forms to create architecture that feels both grounded and deeply human.

Stay tuned for more information on how Melbourne School of Design will celebrate a life of imagination, influence, and enduring impact.

Making the Invisible Visible is a winter intensive that explores the atmospheric qualities of spaces and the ethical questions involved in designing architecture, which inherently affects and conditions people’s lives.

Led by Dr Guillermo Rojas Alfaro (@guilemour), the subject invites students to design a project without form and to intervene in the MSD environment, making their works appear for seven minutes, only to then disappear forever.

The 2026 intensive is now open for enrollment, welcoming new participants to engage with these invisible yet fundamental dimensions of design.

-

1. April Li, Helena Ge
2. Benjamin Marshall, Isaiah Balcombe-Ehrlich, Tara Jakubowskij
3. Agnes Leonardi, Wuyu Liu
4. Eddie Zhou, Michael Li, Irene Sun
5. Vivian Xu, Amy He, Yan Jiao
6. Lachlan Ballia, Tahli Hogberg, Isabelle Weulle

Landscape Architecture student Nan Zhou (@nnnnn_nancy_) has received a commendation for her design entry "Breathing Grassland: The Rhythm of Wet and Dry" in Open House Melbourne's (@OpenHouseMelb) Design Ideas Competition, At the Edge: A platform for Presence.

Jury citations: “Breathing Grassland: The Rhythm of Wet and Dry is a thoughtful and engaging proposal that demonstrates a careful balance between climate responsiveness, resilience, and ecological restoration through design. The micro-manipulation strategies that create ecological refuge are particularly intriguing, offering nuanced interventions that work with rather than against the landscape’s natural systems.

The jury commended the project not only for its response to the brief, but also for its consideration of future pressures the site will face, particularly climate change and increasing weather extremes. The proposal is communicated with clarity through strong written and graphic material, together articulating a compelling narrative of seasonality, adaptation, and change over time”.

Architecture / Landscape Architecture student Jay Anderson (@jayandersonfolio) has received a commendation for his design entry "Voice to the Land" in Open House Melbourne's (@OpenHouseMelb) Design Ideas Competition, At the Edge: A platform for Presence.

Jury citations: “Voice to the Land presents a compelling and imaginative concept, offering a unique and unexpected response to the brief through the use of clay bricks that operate simultaneously as pathway, sculptural element, and evolving habitat for plants and animals. The introduction of small stopping moments formed with boulders enriches this visitors’ journey, encouraging reflection and experiential encounters. The jury appreciated the ephemeral nature of the proposal and its strong conceptual intent, which positions the visitor in direct relationship with the regeneration process.

Elegantly communicated, the project offers a thoughtful proposition, one that invites presence, and participation in the landscape’s ongoing evolution.”

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
