Forced to abandon the land of their birth, a weary outcast wanders the wilderness. All that remains of their civilisation is carried with them: ancient relics, pages torn from sacred books, and ragged heirlooms are woven into their threadbare robes, borne upon their back, or preserved in precious memory. The wilderness is barren, vast, and unforgiving. Their burden is great, each step requires increasing effort and toil, and the horizon is ruthless and cruel. Yet still, they wander, lost and alone, with no promise of sanctuary or reprieve, beyond that which they bear themselves, and refuse to cast aside or surrender. ‘Exodus’ explores the cryptic interplay between culture and identity, of what we preserve in the face of adversity, and what permanence can mean in a transient world.
