Location: One day per week at PILLAR’s Toronto studio and one hour-long biweekly meeting (remote)
Compensation: Unpaid with honorarium of $250 CAD and commuting stipend
The Design Development Assistant will be a pre-placement junior designer contributing to garment development processes for PILLAR’s commercial ready-to-wear season. The ideal candidate is an early-career designer looking for experience before starting their own label or joining a larger garment design company.
Responsibilities
The Design Development Assistant will assist in taking garments from high-fidelity design to final production. Weekly responsibilities will change depending on the development stage.
Tasks might include:
Developing tech packs
Assisting in design reviews
Pattern drafting
Fabric selections and sourcing
Cutting and sewing samples
Garment costing and pricing
Liaising with manufacturers
Assisting in fittings
Assisting in photoshoots
Creative assistance in casting and media
Qualifications
Based in Toronto
2 years of garment production education or experience, including:
Graduation from a 2-year fashion diploma
Halfway through a 4-year fashion degree program
Equivalent experience in garment design
Adobe Illustrator proficiency
Ability to illustrate designs, either analogue or digital
Detail-oriented
Highly communicative
Experience in computerized pattern drafting programs (CLO3D, Pad Systems, Gerber) is an asset
Personal access to Adobe Creative Suite, CLO3D, or Pad Systems is an asset
