EXTENDED THRU MAY 30! Lee Brozgol & Charles Jarm: Eldridge & Mulberry.
.
Brozgol’s “Tenement Series,” graphite drawings from the late 70s to early 80s, depict the grit and the historic architecture around him.
.
These drawings complement his friend Anton van Dalen’s “Night Street” series, and his meticulous brickwork foreshadows the paintings of Martin Wong.
.
In the early 1970s, Charles Jarm, a gay Chinese-American, lived in New York City on Mulberry, where Little Italy and Chinatown overlap. Photographs from the period document him chiseling large nude figures flat on the floor of his living room while naked himself!
.
Constructed of lumber-store boards, he carved the figures in shallow relief and then further defined them with graphite to strengthen and add volume. Each figure is distinct and likely portraits of friends.
.
Figuratively speaking, as Eldridge and Mulberry run parallel to each other, Brozgol and Jarm never crossed paths; their work now meets at our gallery at 53 Stanton.

The contact sheets of Charles Jarm working are just as remarkable as the work itself. Whenever do you find such documentation?!?! The images record Jarm working naked in his Mulberry Street apartment, carving the naked figures. They answer some questions but invite so many more. Did he always create in the nude? Or was he nude just for this documentation as performance? Was the documentation meant to be part of the sculpture? Or was it a spontaneous moment created by Jarm and his boyfriend?
.

Yes, we are open Sundays 12-6 p.m. Perhaps a metaphor about Lower East Side (and life)—from death comes life and you have to destroy in order to rebuild.

Five years and two weeks ago, Josh and I walked past an empty storefront on Stanton Street. Five years ago today, we opened our gallery at 53 Stanton! It was during the pandemic—seemed like a good time to open a commercial venture 😅. Since then, two additional galleries have become our neighbors (JJ Murphy and Abri Mars), and Stanton Street is a destination.

We are currently exhibiting Lee Brozgol & Charles Jarm: Eldridge & Mulberry. Brozgol & Jarm worked in the Lower East Side for decades: Brozgol on Eldridge, and Jarm on Mulberry. Through May 23. Come on by.

Open today 12-6 p.m. Fire escapes are part of the architectural vernacular of tenement buildings. Also known as “economy balconies,” as they were used as a place to hang out, get some air or even places to sleep. This woman is dressed for the night; she’s not Maria from West Side Story, but with her stiletto heels, striped shirt, and floral skirt, she looks like she has a plan for the evening.

Though only 3/4 of a mile long, Eldridge Street on the Lower East Side has a storied history. Named after Lt. Joseph C. Eldridge, Eldridge Street is the site of the Eldridge Street Synagogue, which was built in 1887 and is one of the earliest synagogues built by Eastern European Jews. Jacob Riis photographed the squalor of inmates at the Eldridge Street Police Station in his influential book, How the Other Half Lives, and musicians from Ira Gershwin to Eddie Cantor to Sonic Youth have lived on Eldridge, and of course artists, such as Lee Brozgol, of the Tenement Series drawings which we are exhibiting through May 23.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
