For its fifth edition, the New York festival transformed @knockdowncenter into a two-day fever dream of sound and light. Across 53 sets spanning techno, house, ambient and even a perfectly timed 7 AM blast of the “Macarena,” thousands of dancers were locked in from start to finish.

From electro trailblazer @__dopplereffekt__ to New York-via-Delhi experimentalist Arushi Jain (@modularprincess) and techno legend @stef_mendesidis, Wire spotlights a wide array of underground dance music across genre, scenes and generations.

This year’s lineup felt more global than ever, shaped through collaborations with Montréal’s @mutekmontreal, London club @fold.ldn and Berlin’s @herrensauna.official crew.

Spread across Knockdown’s cavernous Main Hall, the intimate Texas Room, a cosy ambient space and the sun-soaked multilevel Ruins courtyard, ravers danced feverishly all weekend in an atmosphere of communal abandon, elevated by hypnotic lighting installations by @gumgum.studio.

"Jazz dropout" @space_tak has a long list of A-list collaborators.

The Tokyo-born, New York-based trumpeter, famed for his live trumpet playing over jungle records on @thelotradio, has spent 30 years composing and performing, collaborating with the likes of @quincyjones, @asaprocky and Terry Riley along the way.

The Manchester institution will close its doors in January 2027.

This sees the end of a decade-long run as one of the UK's most influential underground venues.

The news was confirmed in an interview with cofounders Austin Collings and Ben Ward in the Guardian, citing ongoing flooding issues and redevelopment pressures around the venue as key reasons behind the closure.

"Basically, it's a swamp," they said, adding that the team wanted "to go out on our own terms, long before we became a museum."

Just two months after shutting down, THE FACE has been acquired by C86 Holdings.

The British style and culture magazine ceased operations earlier this year after citing financial losses and the ongoing pressures of an advertising-led publishing model.

Now, Singapore entrepreneur and C86 Holdings founder Kuok Meng Ru says THE FACE is one of the brands that “matter more than others,” adding "the work now is to carry its legacy forward “with the care and ambition the brand deserves.”
