If you’re wondering if the dudes from Avenue Records can nail the raw sensuality of prime Free, then the answer’s no. No they can’t. Not really.

Big shout to the guys at who owned Avenue Records in Chingford in 1973 for this beauty. Covers of Life on Mars, Alright Now *and* Albatross? All with a picture of a pretty lady getting out of a sports car on the front? Delighted to.

24 hours ago I didn’t even know i was going to Liverpool. And yet, here we are, review in print @telegraph. Newspapers are quite a good idea, eh?

Finally started reading @rspyoung’s Electric Eden last week, then found Constant Lambert’s Music Ho! - an attempt to show how, “the music of our generation is related to the social background of our time” - in a fairly well-preserved 1948 Penguin edition. For £1. Delighted just about covers it.

There’s been a @brookhousekitchen takeover at the Sunday @telegraph - @silvana.franco.food is writing about ways to get yr #coffee fix without drinking it and my #brianepstein and #thebeatles piece is on the front of the Arts section.

I wrote about @paulmccartney, @saxon.official, @bootsy_collins, @spinaltap and more thanks to a very specific dream I had about @rutlesofficial last night. Over on ye ol’ substack now. Link in comments, etc.

So perfectly on the nose it almost looks like a parody. And there’s some interesting editorial choices inside.
1. Excellent cover (there are no credits for anyone, anywhere, sadly)
2. Slade! Faces! Some other people!
3. “Just rewrite the biog details as if it’s actually Elvis telling us this stuff. No one will mind.”
4. Of course he’s here.
5. A double page spread on BS&T is a wild choice. I applaud it. Who doesn’t want to get the inside dope on trumpet and flugelhorn player, Lew Soloff?

I wrote about how an unsolicited “marketing” email I sent ended up with a discreetly brutal subtweet. And what it made me think. It’s on Ye Ol’ Substack now. Link in comments, etc.

I wrote about the highs and lows of trying to make a podcast for @spotify at @sxsw a decade ago with @willfhope over on ye ol’ Substack. Link in comments, etc.

I wrote about how a podcast idea ultimately led me to meeting the late, very great @billy_steinberg. Over on Ye Olde Substaque now: https://open.substack.com/pub/statesofindependence/p/the-days-i-met-billy-steinberg?r=4bh19&utm_medium=ios

I wrote about an unexpected sidenote to going booze free - and its impact on my listening habits - over on Ye Olde Substack.

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
