Rob Nield
Designer, engineer, cyclist

Two senior structural roles are open in our Birmingham studio.
We’re looking for experienced structural engineers to join our civil and structural team in Birmingham, with opportunities available at Senior and Associate level.
Both roles will suit engineers who enjoy close collaboration with architects and wider design teams, and who are confident taking a leading role in the delivery of thoughtful, high-quality structural design across a range of sectors and materials.
Link to our careers page in bio for more info and to apply.
Sometimes the simplest tools are the most powerful - sketching is how we solve problems and share ideas quickly.
Melissa Cicin-Sain, Structural Engineer in our Birmingham team, talks about how this approach helps guide design conversations and unlock creative solutions. She used both hand and digital sketches to communicate complex ideas on the York Minster Centre of Excellence project with Tonkin Liu, which resulted in her recent shortlisting for Rising Star in Technical Excellence at the Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering Awards.
Webb Yates turned 20 this year. To mark the occasion, we’re sharing stories from across the practice as we reflect on the last two decades and look to the future.

A big thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate 20 years of practice with us in Birmingham last week.
It meant a lot to share the evening with friends, collaborators and colleagues who have been part of the journey, and to raise a glass together in our Midlands home.
For those who couldn’t join us, our Birmingham studio door is always open and we’d love to see you soon.

Au royaume des audacieux!
Privileged that @webbyates have been invited by the British Embassy to promote UK architecture, engineering and construction in Paris this week at the ambassador’s residence along with other top architecture and engineering firms.
All part of a drive to showcase the innovation and creativity of British firms and increase trade with our friends across the channel.
As well as an exhibition I’ll be presenting case studies outlining our ethos and approach to engineering in contemporary low carbon building design, how we consistently challenge the status quo to collaborate and innovate to create ever more sustainable buildings.

Delighted that HIAVEN won a Wood Award last night for best private house. The Wood Awards recognises, encourages and promotes outstanding wood design, craftsmanship and installation.
HIAVEN uses wood as a key unifying element throughout and notably as part of an innovative hybrid roof system containing BauBuche beams, precast concrete planks and steel ties to create the dramatic span over the main space.
The self finished roof also provides thermal mass to aid passive cooling and reduce operational energy.
Really nice for the project to get this recognition following the vision, dedication and commitment of client, design team and contractors to create this unique, innovative and sustainable building.
Well done to all involved!!

We love a load test at @webbyates and finally got around to putting our stone bench through its paces with our heavyweight engineering team.
Spanning 4m with just 75mm depth of French limestone - an astonishing span to depth ratio of 53 - under full office loading made possible with 2 steel cables post tensioned to 10t each.
More than a smart piece of furniture it expresses the virtues of stone - higher compressive and tensile strength than concrete, no creep, no formwork, instant strength - no waiting 28 days - plus beautifully self finished. Oh and a fraction of the embodied carbon.
But this isn’t just a prototype - we are on site with a number of projects using this system to create beautiful, honest and low carbon structures which has the potential to change the face of construction as we know it - watch this space!@stonemasonry_comp_stonestair #newstoneage #sustainable #construction

We’ve helped our client Kinrise complete the restoration and refurbishment of the historic Citadel building on Corporation Street.
Working closely with @_architecture00 we carried out extensive investigation and structural analysis to allow a pragmatic approach to justify the building modifications - including atrium extension, feature stair and new plant space - with minimal intervention.
The result is 46,000 sqft of Birmingham’s most sustainable office space designed to be net zero carbon in operation.
The reuse of the building has meant a 2000t saving in embodied carbon compared to demolition and new build.

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
Keep track of Instagram updates discreetly while protecting your privacy and staying anonymous.
View profiles and photos anonymously with ease using the Private Profile Viewer.
This free tool allows you to view Instagram Stories anonymously, ensuring your activity remains hidden from the story uploader.
Anonstories lets users view Instagram stories without alerting the creator.
