Rolling Stone Philippines
Reinventing the Rules.
Reframing Culture.

How much blame should the media get for the erosion of public trust?
For veteran journalist and the founder of Probe Productions Inc., #ChecheLazaro, the fault goes beyond the media. “I think we’re all guilty to a certain extent. Perhaps the guiltiest are the audiences, the people, because we allow it to happen, because we don’t call them out. We’ve always been described as people with a short memory. We forget so easily.”
Lazaro looks back at the legacy of “Probe” and how she helped usher in Philippine investigative journalism as we know it today.

#AnneCurtis has made a name for herself and now she’s speaking up to protect it.
In her first cover story since the outcry over a lawmaker’s vulgar comments, Curtis speaks out on misogyny in the Philippines and offers advice to men everywhere: “When men call it out among their friends or coworkers or strangers, that’s when culture really begins to shift.”
Beyond politics, the actress talks about her breakout hit, “The Loved One,” her desire to return to camp, and the directors she wants to work with next.

“Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence” is far from an easy watch.
The six-episode limited series, written and directed by Shugo Praico (“Nanahimik ang Gabi,” “Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins”), delves deep into the consequences of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.
Oplan Tokhang is in full effect, and men in uniforms roam the streets of Manila looking for more names to add to their list of drug users and pushers. Praico switches back and forth between images of bodies on the street, leaving little room for viewers to look away from a war that, in reality, only took place a decade ago.

Alt‑rock legends the #Pixies filled Filinvest Tent with unpredictable energy, barong‑clad flair, a generational crowd with Sandwich with actress and singer Tuesday Vargas on vocals as opener.
“Watching Pixies live was absolutely surreal: the “quiet‑loud” dynamic hitting harder in person, Francis’ menacing vocal presence, Richardson’s steady groove, Lovering’s tight drumming precision, and Santiago’s distortion‑heavy work bending every alt‑rock rule there is,” writes our music staff writer @1116to1771.

A South Korean thriller starring several of the country’s biggest stars, as well as the guy who played young Magneto in the X-Men films. A cryptic tale of xenophobia, paranoia, and the way that rumors lead to violence, featuring a bald Sebastian Stan. The term ‘mall emo’ or #emopop derives from pop-oriented songwriting, cleaner production, and features more radio-friendly hooks and general accessibility in the 2000s compared to other styles of emo that came to prominence in the North American DIY scene in the late ‘90s. The spirit of emo pop still resonates strongly with a generation that has long since passed it, while another generation is still learning to be emotional by discovering these songs.
At rollingstonephilippines.comare five of some of the essential emo pop songs you need to know.

Every new episode of #Euphoria Season 3 is a little more dizzying, but so far, Episode 5 takes the cake for the most nauseating or whiplash-inducing tonal shifts. Here, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) makes more of her Hollywood dreams come true, while Nate (Jacob Elordi) continues to suffer at the hands of loan shark Naz, and big-time pimp Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) finally catches on to Rue (Zendaya).

#ArianaGrande couldn’t help but find her way back to the studio: her eighth album, “Petal,” arrives July 31.
Grande will be in the middle of the #EternalSunshine tour when the record arrives. Last year, she opened up about how her relationship with music has transformed as she’s spent more time diving into film endeavors, like “Wicked” and the upcoming comedy film “Focker-in-Law.” “Very silly of you all to assume that just because I have my hands full with many things that I plan to abandon singing & music,” the singer wrote on Instagram. “It is and has always been my lifeline. there will need to be room made for all of it.”
