Thousands of Meta employees woke up Wednesday morning to discover they’d been laid off due to a shift in AI-focused teams. Among those let go, the emotions are complicated: devastated yet relieved, anxious yet oddly celebratory.

Breaking: Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi is backing Supervisor Connie Chan for Congress.

The long-awaited endorsement could reshape a competitive primary to fill the seat Pelosi has held for four decades. Chan, who has trailed state Sen. Scott Wiener in polls, now has the most powerful name in San Francisco politics in her corner heading into the primary on June 2.

“I have been watching this race closely with all of you — and I believe one candidate stands above the rest,” Pelosi said, in the recording. "Connie Chan is the leader best prepared to carry forward the fight for San Francisco in the Congress of the United States.”
