Finding my way in the world of type design.
Type West 23, MATD 24-25

Every day is Earth day. Featuring the new and improved Verrückt. Besides European Latin it also supports wider world Latin languages and Devanagari.
Huge thanks to @kimyagandhi via @practicatype for Devanagari addition, and @typedunord via @typeelectives for the general improvement of the Latin. Special shoutout to @huyle.work for feedback on the Vietnamese.

It’s official now: I have graduated from Reading. It’s been an interesting year. Met lots of wonderful people, drew some type and wrote 10,000 words on women printers in 16th century early modern Europe.
Looking forward now to the next challenge, but I don’t yet what that will be.

Finished the Practica Devanagari course last week with @kimyagandhi and this is what I made. The bold is still a work in progress, but the regular/light is mostly there.
I thoroughly enjoyed the course and Kimya is a great teacher, guiding you through the whole process of discovering a script you are not familiar with.

The past week we’ve been working on the digitisation of Baskerville’s Great Primer 16pt with Riccardo Olocco andMichele Patané as part of the Small Performances Baskerville Punches project. Our group got to work on the Roman straight from the punches - with a printed specimen for further reference. Amazing experience. Pretty pleased with the outcome.

It’s taken a year and a half of waiting patiently until this sign was lit at a time convenient to me ; But this sign is special. It’s the first in use of the typeface I made for the revival project at Type West in 2023. And it’s in the very village where I live.

Researching different script in the library and came across this magnificent hieroglyphic character from Egypt. Latin is so boring by comparison. (Image from Les caractères de l'Imprimerie Nationale). #typedesign

Tomorrow is the first day of the next step in my type design progression: a masters at the University of Reading. Would you like to keep track of my progress? I could (and may) have a blog, or start posting stories here, but I prefer a slower method of documentation. I am planning on sending a postcard. I would love to add you to my mailing list. Choose from once a month, once a fortnight, or every week. Of course depending on the post service you may not get them at that rate, but that's part of the fun. Find the link to subscribe in bio, or type in the whole link from the last slide.

Exactly a month ago I was in Paris for Now24 and I saw some letters on the Arc de Triomphe. Not quite the Trajan column, but good enough from a type perspective. Had some fun digitising it.

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
