@thefids section from @sandmbicycles classic BMX Inferno.

Check the full vid at sandmbikes channel on youtube.

🔥 S&M BMX Inferno is one of those raw, mid‑school era BMX videos that really captured the chaos, humor, and heavy riding style of S&M Bikes. Released in 1995, it’s often remembered as both a landmark in BMX video culture and a perfect reflection of S&M’s rebellious, DIY ethos.

Key Details
Release year: 1995. Shot and edited in the early 90s, it came out right as BMX was shifting from the late‑80s freestyle scene into the grittier street and dirt focus.

Produced by S&M Bikes
Chris Moeller’s company was already known for its attitude and rider‑driven approach. Inferno cemented S&M’s reputation as the brand that didn’t play by industry rules.

Rider lineup
Featured heavy hitters like Keith Treanor, Jimmy Levan,Ian Morris, Moeller himself, and other S&M team riders of the time. Each section was loose, funny, and packed with gnarly riding.

Style and vibe
Inferno wasn’t polished—it was chaotic, punk‑influenced, and full of sketchy crashes, wild antics, and raw street/dirt riding. It felt more like hanging out with the crew than watching a “produced” BMX film.

Cultural impact
It’s considered one of the defining “mid‑school” BMX videos. For many riders, Inferno was their first taste of BMX presented as pure attitude and lifestyle, not just tricks.

Why it matters
Inferno helped set the tone for BMX videos through the 90s: rider‑made, gritty, and unapologetically fun. It’s part of why S&M became a cult brand—because they didn’t just sell bikes, they sold a culture.

@jamesahudson getting up there at the 2-Hip KOV Finals, Newport Beach, California, USA back in 1990

📹 @ebenkrackau

If you haven't already, go check the latest Union Tapes Podcast tapes on YouTube or your favourite streaming platform to hear all about James' involvement with the UK BMX/Skateboarding scene since the 1980s!

Words from John Dye (Bicycle Union): "As a key player of the Trumpton scene I been trying to get this guy on for ages, James has been working on a book and wanted to do this once it was completed, he stayed true to his word and came on, and in person! The Retford/Trumpton scene became a major piece of the puzzle in the mid 80s to early 90s. The Hudson brothers had one of the early half pipes in the grounds of their house. Featured many times in BMX Action bike and Rad and the scene bred locals that went on to become some of the pioneers of the era.

Our chat goes back to his very start in BMX, being ‘pro’ed out by his Grandad’ on his first BMX, to doing demos at local fetes with the Retford and District trick team. Building the half pipe, his first sponsors, riding at the circus, the UKBFA circuit and Alfreton quarter pipe sessions. Trips to the USA, getting into photography, pics for RAD. What happened at the controversial UK KOV Portsmouth event. Becoming the editor of SK8 Action magazine and how he ended up making his on BMX magazine in 91, the short lived BMX Now! And everything that followed..."

BMX Boys having a lot of fun down @romskatepark_official along with the Kellogs BMX Championship back in 1983

From "The Stuntabiker" YouTube

“BMX Boys” is a 1983 UK pop single performed by Danny Owen & The Mongoose Team, released on Gipsy Records. It was created at the height of the first big BMX boom, when brands like Mongoose were pushing hard into mainstream youth culture.

The track is pure early‑80s bubblegum energy: upbeat, catchy, and designed to hype BMX racing to kids glued to Saturday‑morning TV.

It even came with a limited‑edition poster inside the 7" single release.

📺 Where people know it from
The song became semi‑legendary because it appeared all over early‑80s UK BMX media:

Kellogg’s BMX Championship TV coverage — the track was used during broadcasts and became part of the scene’s soundscape.

Official promo video — featuring Danny Owen and actual Mongoose riders, rediscovered and uploaded decades later.

The rediscovered video is what brought the song back into BMX‑nerd circulation — a proper time capsule of uniforms, number plates, and early‑80s UK tracks.

It’s widely regarded as one of the most raw, authentic freestyle BMX tapes of its era, blending heavy riding, gritty VHS aesthetics, and a tongue-in-cheek title that riffs on Slayer’s Reign in Blood (track “Angel of Death” at 666)."
