Before taking this drawing class, I never really put -any- time into art. I would attempt something (I’ve never practiced), suck at it, and then give up, or I would feel like making something is a waste of time because I could be doing something “more productive.”

I probably put over 24 hours into this piece. Partly because it’s a graded assignment but also because I really enjoyed it. While I can see all its flaws and it didn’t turn out exactly as I wanted, I’m really proud of this. I’m gonna make a promise to myself to make more art—free of judgement, free of any expectations. It would be far more productive to spend an hour doodling than it would be to doom scroll on my phone. Perspective.
