I watched my first streaming online video back in 1996 in the computer labs at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design @mcadedu. The video was 320 x 240 pixels in size, maybe even smaller, and it buffered which means it would stall or become super pixelated as it tried to play.

Cleopatra Coleman is the film's star, producer, and she wrote a great story. Matt Osterman turned over every stone to direct the story. Travis Stevens helmed a terrific production with his Snowfort Pictures.

The process was super fun and I am grateful to have had the gig.

Luckily, I had a break in my schedule and could make a trip to the set. This allowed me to work with Matt and the aerial photography team on capturing the photography used throughout the opening sequence.

We talked a lot about how we could use the sequence to help support the story and set the tone of the movie.

We did several concept sketches looking at typographic styles over close-up shots of farm fields.
.

The film is a science fiction story where drones are commonly used to farm the fields. We knew early on this was a great design element to use in the opening sequence to help communicate this story point.

.

I also thought the title credits should be rendered as typography hovering in space above shots of the fields and casting a shadow, like a drone moving through a field in real life.

With the design direction and footage figured out, I did a montage edit of the open. Then, worked with Artist Eli Dorsey to incorporate the drones.
