Hey everyone! Great news. My very good friend @nachomolinaart and I have been nominated over a few categories held by @conceptartassociation & @lightboxexpo this year! Please go check out the other amazing works of nominees on the official site and dazzle in the beauty the art the nominees have put their (for some)blood sweat and tears into. So proud of Nacho and all the other members of our art team who influenced us to create these pieces in the first place!

I’m not great at social media, hence the ins and outs which leads to:

I’d like to take the time to thank our directors @shannon_tindle & @johnaoshima for giving me this wonderful opportunity. I’ve learned things that I would never be able buy with money. Besides all the art, I’m a better person because of this intense and colorful journey! I’m so grateful to be a dot in Ultraman’s history into the future. Thank you so much for absolutely everything! (Would have made a separate post but I don’t even know when I’ll be back here lol)

Can’t wait for all of us to embark on our own journeys as artists and creators and one day relink together over a late night Steak and Mac ;)

This is my Gigantron surfacing pass in 2021, just to test out how we would be using the manga textures on character surfacing and in environments. You can see the skeletal version AND the bioluminescence version(it was an idea we had that most likely was too expensive lol) that @nachomolinaart gorgeously designed later in production.

At this time, I was learning how to use @clipstudioofficial as fast as I could to see what the possibilities of the tools were. @haydzilla and the @ilmvfx crew as our partners had extensive convos about how we could utilize the vast library of live action work they’ve done so far and imitate the ‘manga background’ look with the posterization + clean up technique.

After that, there was a bit of internal convincing that I needed to do to implement a whole new program for our art department, which is something you should definitely think about when you’re doing leadership! Is it worth taking the time to learn a whole new technique and style in a new program? Or can it be done with the tools that you already have. Would the results be vastly different? Or would it be the same?

From there, we played around with the amount of the manga textures that would show up in final look of picture, and we arrived at a good balance in the end.

I was really intimidated at first that we were to have a partnership with someone who seemed so stacked, especially for a first time rookie lead like myself. But after we met(virtually) I knew everything was going to be okay. Hayden never knew how to say no, always brought a very cheery and light friendliness. Never have I seen him have an RBF. EVER. Our partnership was incredibly educational, and I really can’t wait till we can all do something cool together again.

He also taught me that some of the colors I chose for the initial color script were in fact ILLEGAL??!!! Apparently with HDR, you can burn people’s retinas with specific colors that come with specific values, and damn he was right.

The three guardians of the Art Department.

Lead by Jen @jenmacv, our Production Supervisor who has seen us through it all. Jen has two beautiful sons, Henry and Wyatt. Even though she was a full time mom, full time Prod Sup, and the head of the events coordination committee at her sons school???!!!(Shes got a time-turner), she always came with a smile and a positive outlook even during the most difficult of times. Just like @mmateumestre, You’ve seen me go from an overly wrung up half-human to a … still half way, but calmer and more aware human 😂

When Henry or Wyatt would come with their truck toys or to chat into the zoom view, you were so amazing at taking the time to give them nurture and structure. Those moments were a blessing to me to take a beat from our work convos, but also to understand what it really looks like when professional Jen switches on her ‘life’ side: Truly communicating, listening, gently course correcting, and encouraging. To my surprise, pro Jen and life Jen weren’t much different at all They were presented differently, but the core was the same. Thanks Jen, for your secret mentorship and being an excellent example. Thank you for giving me the many chances to change. Your generosity gave me the space for that change, and your warm acceptance and constant reach encouraged me to want to learn more on how to become a better leader and human being.

As to @madelinedorrohvo and @kaitlyn.cavanagh , you both have saved my ass on many occasions. Our HARVARD ALUMNI coord Madeline gave us strong support and structure, but always with lightning fast-wit, a beautiful pro-voice-actor’s laugh(yes she’s legit and even has an AGENT??!!), and a strong will to do the right thing.
Kaitlyn, last but not AT ALL the very least, always brought such a calming positive energy to every interaction. You were always there, reaching out to support in anyway, even emotionally. You were vulnerable with us, which helped me open up, and I admired that you were so unapologetically yourself: An artist, a nerd, a sweet introvert, with a pure hearted that wants to do good.

I feel like you and I were meant to be in this together. I learned from you, not only just artistry, but also life. I frustrated you, but you were always so quick to forgive andlet go. When I was down you did your best to lift me up, even when things weren’t going as planned. You saw me change, probably in the closest view. And to think how I used to be makes me cringe lol

Thanks for your partnership, friendship, understanding, and support and most of all, pretending you don’t remember how i used to be 🤣

Hey Ultra Art Team. We got through it and we put it out for everyone to see. Ain’t that incredible?

We had tough times, I made mistakes, many mistakes, but I feel we were on the battlefield together, especially during the most strange, stressful, uncertain, and terrifying times the world has experienced. I wanted to thank you all for your patience, support, forgiveness, understanding, collaboration, love, advice through this first leadership experience. Some of you shared your wisdom with me on a daily basis, and during very difficult moments, those words were the north star for me to continue on, and that is no exaggeration. You changed the way I once was, and I grew incredibly as a human being.

I am much more mature, open minded, self aware, empathetic, and humble, thanks to the education I received from you all. How can I ever thank you enough? Your presence has changed my life forever and I will cherish it till the end. Lets do it again?
