Very exited to share “Water Horse” today, the latest collection of Birds of Paradise tunes out today via Only One on the Mountain. I started working on these tunes almost two years ago on my cassette machine, which is wild in that it feels like yesterday and also a million years ago. I am incredibly grateful to make music with my friends, many of whom are featured on this collection of songs.

Some of these songs are strange. I wrote most of them in the throes of a really bad flu, right after coming home from @adamsprymusic UK tour. There’s a few songs that I’m not sure I’m the best singer or performer of even. And they’re hissy, lo-fi but not necessarily in a hip way. But to me, they feel and sound here like they did in my head, and if even if they’re imperfect that’s just fine.

I have to especially thank my dude @alo.bu for producing, playing, mixing most of it. As well as @joekaplowmewzik who drummed the drums on the non-drum machine tunes at @hippiecowboystudio. @rockmesamadeus shared her vocal and engineering and mastering talents on it. Many thanks to @kylemcevoymusic for putting it out. And @lifeindafastlanes is the video and visual king, who masterminded our crackpot Corpo Tech video. In early high school he remembered the whole and half steps of different scales by using his hilarious ‘water horse’ method where a whole step was ‘water’ and a half step was ‘horse.’ So a major scale would be ‘water water horse water water water horse.’ It was goofy and obviously a pretty washed joke, but I still think about it it all the time and never forgot it.
