And still, to our amazement and appreciation, we were joined and embraced each night of the “An Evening with Mother Tongue” tour with so much love from people who traveled from different countries, some traveling around Germany to join us at multiple shows, through freezing rain and even snow, some for the first time, some for their 10th time. We had no idea what to expect after such a long absence. Didn’t expect to sell out of merch so early into the tour ( sorry), didn’t expect the sold out shows ( thank you!), didn’t expect to see and meet the folks who traveled to multiple shows/ cities ( we love you!). Now that we’re back to the realities of life at home, ALL the more, we appreciate each and every person that came out each night to join us. We love you.

There is no singular event that inspired the creation of the “Cruz Loves Skeletons” picture book.
Sure, I could say it was inspired by my kids limitless obsession / affection for bones & skeletons. Or the fact that every room, tabletop, vehicle, piece of furniture, corner of the house had a plastic bone or skeleton/s in it. I could note his year round graveyard in the front yard as a spark for the story. Or The period where my kids favorite 3 foot posable skeleton “Mr bones”had to walk into preschool with him daily, go to restaurants, car rides, the beach, etc.
I could site my kids “Bone magnet’ era as a significant inspo, when he’d frequently find animal bones and rotting carcasses in random places ( then bring them home for me to boil, scrape, clean, and sun dry🤦🏽♂️).
All of these moments have their part in creating the book.
But mostly it was his frequent requests for a Picture book that he found fun and interesting, I.e. skeletons💀
That, and creating a childrens book that celebrates the magic of imagination, and the beauty of being different.
I printed a batch of books a while ago, that are long gone. I’ll be setting up an order linkon the @cruz.loves.skeletons accountwhen I have books printed and available.

“Fear has no hold over me, for I’m with you,,,
Struggle has no hold over me, for I’m with you,, death has no hold over me, for I’m with you”…. This was the chorus to the song that came on as the music station I was listening to suddenly cut out, and this random song came through, shortly after my mom passed away early Friday morning ( immediately after i had asked her to give me a clear sign that she heard me talking to her… the message was clear).
My mom, Sally Tulao, was/ is a deeply spiritual lady. Unwavering in her relationship with God, and her continuous prayers for friends, family and strangers.
A hairstylist and salon owner for close to 60 years, my mom always loved doing hair, and would frequently continue taking hair cutting technique classes and going to hair shows for inspiration.
I remember her coming home, many times, after working a long continuously booked salon day when I was a teen, to cut hair in our tiny bathroom on my friends and schoolmates who lined up for her haircuts.
My mom, and dad, had ALWAYS been incredibly supportive of me playing music.
And to taking me to see live music as kid.
I’ve always been appreciative of that.
Music was always a big part of our family, and so manysoul, funk, gospel,salsa, jazz songs are the soundtrack to the memories of my parents.
I was holding my mom shortly before she passed, telling her stories and recalling all the beautiful memories we shared together.
Thanking her for being such a loving, supportive, amazing mother.
Her body had shut down rapidly over the past few weeks from very advanced dementia, but she found the strength to squeeze my hand to let me know she heard each thing I had said.
She passed peacefully in her sleep early Friday morning.
I’m so grateful to my incredible cousin Brandi and my dad’s beautiful sister/ my Aunt Barbara for their loving care with my mom. There are no words to properly express my gratitude.
