Sometimes you need to recreate the sun light before it reaches your location or if it’s cloudy, this is one way to do it, i like to blend the raw power of HMI with the superb color of the tungsten.

Here is a night-for-day breakdown from 'The Bromley Boys' feature film.

This day interior scene was set in a classroom and due to the school's schedule we were only allowed to shoot in late afternoon, which in November meant shooting night-for-day.

Swipe right for the lighting plan.

For daylight, Gaffer @runlight_film set up 2x 4K HMIs, the middle one lighting the talent went through a 12x12 Grid Cloth diffusion and the outer one (depending on the shooting direction) was on medium beam to create sharper shadow cuts on the walls (we did use a tree as a light gobo on the back wall). We brightened the outside space a bit, but apart from the very edges, we didn't really show the windows in shot. Inside we rigged 2x 44KinoFlos, one near the front of the classroom and one near the talent. We mixed the bulbs half 5600K (to extend the 'daylight' from outside) and half 3200K (to create a bit of colour contrast and mood). We added some negative fill to shape the window light and a bit of bounce for a backlight. We also had a LED panel on a boom above the door to extend the light from the practicals in the corridor. On reflection, I think the natural sun angle wouldn't create hard light on both ends of the classroom, but I think having hard cuts on both sides helped to sell the sunny daylight illusion...

Another setup I've had some questions about, the Roundtable scene in "City of Angels, City of Death." Lighting diagram and camera plot on the last slide.

We wanted the scene to be reminiscent of the bars and restaurants that the guys would meet in back in the day to discuss their cases, but present it in a new way by almost picking up their booth and placing it in the warehouse. I wanted the lighting to be influenced by a bar location, but also a bit dramatic.

We started by using @quasarscience 4' and 2' tubes over the back of the booth to give a bit of shine to the red leather and also top light the guys to bring them up just enough so they wouldn't blend in to the background. It also created just enough light to shape their faces when they turn and talk to each other, without them being even lit the whole time. The key light for the scene was a leko rigged just off the table that we diffused, snooted, and slammed into the table cloth. All of these fixtures were on dimmers.

I wanted the window behind the table to glow with a dirty kind of grimy warehouse vibe and color, but not give any ambient light to the room. We put 2x #arrilighting 2k open face fixtures in the hallway on the other side of the window. The hallway was a yellow/green color which was a perfect color for the glow from the window, so we bounced the lights off the back wall of the hall and through a 12x rag of unbleached muslin. To give the bench in the foreground of the wide shot it's shine, we used a leko into some beadboard.

Two of our cameras were mounted on 6' sliders with 25-250mm lenses get us multiple angles on the guys as they talked. The third was a static wide.

Key Grip: @nitelander - Gonzo

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
