Speaking of the Coast - new record 🌞OUT NOW 🌊

🌞SPEAKING OF THE COAST 🌞
Our 4th album is out!!!! GO find a song you like!!
🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
What a sweet feeling to have our 4th album out in the world. It’s the most gratifying thing to be able to collaborate with my best friends and express ourselves through music. Playing in this band has been the most rewarding part of my life. To all who have supported us on this crazy ride over the past 10 years, thank you. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we did making it. - Sam
Speaking of the Coast is a twilight cry, a creative blast of every genre we’ve ever wanted to be as a band. It toots from calypso folk to indie rock, to country rock, to psychedelic rock. We pull from an ambitiously wide range of inspiration for our projects, and they can be heard song to song. The guiding thread that keeps the project cohesive is Jared’s steady drumming, Sam’s rhythmic guitar playing, and my (Shane’s) prominent tenor vocal. The album features many themes, story songs, political gestures, love ballads, spiritual quests, and emotional growth. Although every song is different, some more than others, the album is never boring or repetitive. Every song starts with a new fresh perspective. Looking and listening back to our previous projects, to me, Speaking of the Coast is very determined. What it lacks in thematic focus; it has tenfold in songwriting and arrangement of choice. I had so much creative control over every detail following my intuition. I feel like I finally found my voice as an artist in this band.
Written and recorded in bits and pieces, from 2024 - 2025.
2 songs recorded live with @peter.m.brooks and @futurecrib at George Rezek’s studio.
The rest was recorded music first on logic, usually guitar and vocals, then overdubbed Jared on drums later in February 2025 (it was such a pain in the ass to do drums last. Record your rhythm tracks first kids). Except for Hawaii Jive O, partially recorded with Sam and Michael back in 2016, the chorus recorded separately in 2025.

KGB man is a dang old song idea of ours.
We’ve wanted to put it on a record since 2020. I rember demoing it for the first time even earlier than that. Maybe 2017? It came from playing Sly Cooper, the secret agent lick used in the song. It took years to finish and I’m pleased to finally have some version available to be heard. I added some psychedelic drum EQ and some subtle piano thumbs. Sam and I recorded the final guitar lick on tape sped up, then slowed it down and cranked the preamps. The bass we did part DI, part Peavy amp. Then doubled in a higher octave.
Tryina get a full video up soon… stay tuned..

We spent 2024 - -2025 working on this project.
2 tracks were tracked live with@peter.m.brooksour good friend and revolving Medium member. (you love me always, and speaking of the coast) Much like how we did the City Life record.
We tried recoding a few other new songs this way, but I decided I wanted to re-record the songs and develop the arrangements.
Everything else I recorded with Sam at his house or mine over the span of a few months. Then - we took a weekend trip out to Jared and recorded the rhythm parts February 2025 + additional Sam overdubs. We used a little Grecian toy mandolin Jared had for Dammit Pam.
I spent last June 2025 doing late over dubs (some vocals, acoustics) and mixing in a hot barn in upstate NY. Recorded the piano overdubs in a practice room for free at SUNY Oneonta, shouts out to them.
Banged it out and here it is. 🌊🌊🌊🌊

We’ve chosen to release this song next widening the sonic depth of our next album. It’s all over the place!
🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
This tune was one that I was quite fortunate to have written it almost all at once. I was driving to Turnip Truck for groceries in Nashville and the melody suddenly struck me. I voice memoed it, went home and had a quite complete song. My songwriting has usually been formulaic, and this piece is not much different from the others - verse, chorus, solo etc. I am always taking notes from The Beatles, and modulated the chorus key making the tonic minor, which really hits. The first minute and a half of this recording are maybe my favorite bit of music I, and we’ve, ever made. I worry I over produced the second half of the song, it gets very dramatic on the final chorus. I wanted to fix it, but it would have meant re-record the vocals, start over. When I listen back, I think the song is best at its softest and most sincere. Oh well, sometimes it’s good to move on. A good reason to listen to it over and over!
Inspired by may fav beach boys song, ‘Disney Girls’, and Fleetwood Mac’s, ‘Crystal’.
We did some initial album sessions in 2024 with George Rezek and Johnny Hopson engineering and producing, with Peter Brooks on guitar recorded live! This was one of the recordings we ended up using for the final album.
I overdubbed some additional acoustic, piano and changed Jared’s drums around a wee bit in the chorus May - June 2025. Some of these vocals I re-recorded in an unfinished barn when living on @succ.urro last summer.
Written for my sweety Kacy.

‘I Want To Be Alone’ - new song 🎵 and video by The Medium, out now
This is our 3rd single off our 4th album, Speaking Of The Coast. out 5/1
Tell a friend, pls share.
Self produced, mixed and released. Enjoy!
‘I Want ToBe Alone’ - A dark thunking psychedelic rocker about my meditation practice.
🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
Our third single is out today. Previously released on New Commutes 10 year anniversary compilation. This song was a fan fav, and we decided to release it as a single, showcasing the record’s darker side.
Combating the ego is hard work, not an activity I turn to regularly. This song embodies my frustration with the process, letting myself go. As a songwriter, I enjoy writing about my daily struggles. This song went unfinished from mid 2024 - 25. I had the music mostly finished but lyrically went unsatisfied for months. One day I sat down and finished it, tweaking the melody helped unstuck me.
There are 10 guitar tracks? I think? Stacked, compressed, panned, DI. I got a really strange sound using ‘Flex Time’ in logic to digitally stretch those guitar chorus notes and add some strangeness. DBXed the symbols and added a subtle wurly in the background. Space echo on vocals, of coarse.
This feels like a Frown Town song, with its more 2010’s type indie rock, but I’m happy to claim it as a Medium tune and add to the variety of the album.
Music video, by me (Shane) out now pls go spot it on YouTube!Thank you to my best friend and love @kacy_coyle for helping produce and guide me thru making this video.
Jared Hicks @ich_glaub - Drums
Sam Silva @gaba_gool_ - Bass

Mixed by Shane Perry
Awesomely mastered by Andrija Tokic @bombshelterstudio sounds really nice and crunchy.

‘Where’s The Flood’ (official video)
Made by me, Shane, for free on Blender. Since we don’t all live close together anymore, I had to get creative with creating visuals. It’s been quite a challenge working and learning on a deadline making 3D animated videos. For Where’s The Flood, I used old iPhone stock of us lads mucking around to fill the space.. and include my friends visually without being proximal to them.
My characters are kinda crappy, and I am having trouble getting them to move. I modeled them quickly because it just takes so long to make a good one, then rig it correctly. I wanted to animate the characters face, but it wouldn’t stick. I removed his nose, and he kinda looks like a Lego man, but once I’d committed there’s no turning back.. I’ll get better as I continue making more video content. The water physics were a big help in adding intrigue and make it appear I know what I’m doing..
I feel good about the objects and designing the living room. I only watched 2 YouTube tutorials to model the TV and how to make a wood texture, and made all the books and lamps and everything on my own. It reminds me of playing Spore or Tony Hawks Underground 2 park creator, but just really complicated and everything is from scratch. The next video I finished in 2 weeks, so I’m definitely getting faster. Thanks to everyone who’s viewed my progress.

Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles.
