It has been a wonderful year, filled with so many creative projects and inspiring clients. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of Thinking Caps Design, and we are grateful for the individuals who share their stories with us.

Today we share the Bill Luke family, and as part of a design package for the newly built Bill Luke Santan dealership Thinking Caps Design incorporated a large interior wall graphic into the showroom that tells the story about the Luke family, their history and legacy in Arizona.

As a member of the PCA (Phoenix Community Alliance) we get invited to some pretty amazing events, like last night’s Creative City Symposium. On the 4 session panels were some of the Valley’s most innovative thinkers giving insight into how a city’s arts, culture and public life destinations influence our community and how creative thinking can energize our way of approaching how to build a creative city.

Afterwards we caught up with a local artist creating and displaying his work in the hotel lobby - thank you Andy Celis for the conversation.

This week we had the privilege to present to the senior Industrial Design class taught by Shon Quannie, along with Visual Communications students. It was an overall great experience talking with the next generation of designers, and introducing them to our very specific design profession of Experiential Graphic Design. They responding well and we loved the spot on questions they asked afterwards.

We thoroughly enjoyed attending this year’s Phoenix Design Week conference, which was centered around the term “Evolve”. One of the most notable speakers was Bob Case, from Lavidge, who presented about his own creative evolution and some insights and examples from his career path.

Three key takeaway points were:

We are proud to announce that our team of Thinking Caps Design and E2 Innovations has been selected as a finalist for the City of Scottsdale Public Art Project Gateway Markers. These markers will be located at the major vehicular entries from the bordering cities and towns, and will make a strong identity statement for Scottsdale.

While on site Julie volunteered to stand by one of the existing markers that will be replaced with the promise the photo would not be published! ;-) #public

We recently crafted a logo that fused a blossoming rose with a camera shutter, creating a new branded identity for Phoenix based portrait photographer Jean Laninga. This very distinctive graphic reflects the predominately female client base and the creative services provided by Jean, and the identity has since been integrated into all new promotional materials, portrait portfolios and client gifts such as Charity Charms.

AZ Big Media wrote a great article about the committed efforts of Downtown Tempe Authority, Valley Metro and Local First during the Tempe Streetcar construction process, successfully supporting the Mill Avenue business owners and customers during these summer months!

Thinking Caps Design supported these organizations with on-site directories and wayfinding strategies.

Thinking Caps Design is very proud to be on the design team working on the Margaret T. Hance Park Conservancy revitalization efforts, and today we attended the highly anticipated event announcing the new Fiesta Bowl sponsored playground.

The ground breaking event for the new playground marks the first major project of the the Hance Park revitalization, and highlights the long term commitment that Fiesta Bowl has made to the Arizona community.

We recently had the privilege of visiting Sierra Signs, with a personal tour of their offices and fabrication shop by president and CEO Teri Davis. Sierra Signs has been delivering “signs of all kinds” for over 30 years, and we have been fortunate to work on projects with Teri and her team for the past 8 years. They have always delivered a great product, on time and within budget, with customer service that is beyond comparison.

This week the studio is buzzing with jazz tunes from one of our favorites, Louis Armstrong. Most everyone knows his distinguishable voice, along with his unique “scat” singing and musical style that were all his own. We celebrate his birthday this week, by listening to some of his amazing music with songs like “Hello Dolly”, “Mack The Knife”, and “What A Wonderful World”. Today we are celebrating a man whose music challenged those around him to think differently, smiled through adversity, and is still today impacting lives long after he is gone.
