I love talking dogs, but I just don’t have the ability to look up every single dog that I get asked about. Or keep up with the status of every single creature I’ve ever met. I go to too many places. Thank you for understanding.

I wish I could help more, but I just can’t… I’m already past my limit. And I don’t know how long I can continue with this pace. We all need boundaries.

Forgive any mispronunciations, please. I saw the dandelion while I was walking dogs that haven’t walked on real grass in almost 2 years.

A Simple Meditation of Empathy

This is a dandelion, Taraxacum officinale, a herbaceous perennial in the Asteraceae family and the bane of many homeowners with manicured-green-grass fetishes. At an animal shelter, a single flower might be the first new thing a newborn puppy sniffs after months in a kennel, the first plant a confiscated dog sees in two years, or the last natural thing a dog experiences as it walks to its unnatural death. This single dandelion might be ignored, peed on, stomped on, eaten, plucked, weed-whacked, or eventually go to seed, spread, wilt, and die.

Forgive me for posting, but I just wanted you to see what extraordinary thing I saw this week at an animal shelter: a common yellow flower atop serrated greenery.

From @socialcompassion “Our cosponsored bill with the Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office, AB 2344, authored by Assemblymember Matt Haney (D-San Francisco) was unanimously voted off the Assembly Appropriations Committee’s suspense file and now heads to the Assembly floor for a vote by the full Assembly in the coming weeks.

The bill would allow prosecutors to petition a court to require the forfeiture of animals seized in abuse cases so they can be adopted into loving homes sooner, instead of being forced to remain in shelters for months or even years as evidence while criminal cases move through the court system.

Animals that have already endured horrific abuse deserve the chance to leave the shelter environment behind and begin healing in safe, stable, and compassionate homes as quickly as possible.

AB 2344 will be voted on by the full Assembly as soon as this Monday!
