#FacultyFriday Our faculty's research is transcends beyond local, state, national, and even international social work spaces.

Congratulations to Assistant Professor Dr. Sharon Borja for representing the Graduate College of Social Work (GCSW) for leading an upcoming plenary session at the 2026 Diversity in Organizations, Communities, & Nations conference! The conference brings together individuals who share an interest in human differences and diversity, particularly in how they manifest in organizations, communities, and nations.

Dr. Borja will be presenting on "Ethics and Opportunities with AI for Strengthening Socio-Community Wellbeing Strategies" at the National Autonomous University of Mexico later this month. We look forward to her success at the conference and in the future direction of her research.

On Friday, May 15th, at the University of Houston Fertitta Center, over 250 Master of Social Work (MSW) graduates and five newly minted PhDs crossed the stage, marking not just the culmination of their academic journeys, but the beginning of new chapters as leaders, advocates, and change-makers.

GCSW Dean Yarneccia D. Dyson @uh_gcswdean warmly greeted the audience, noting that “Commencement is our most significant event as an academic community. It is a special occasion for each of our graduates, their families, and friends who have come to share this day with them. The road you traveled was not a singular journey, but one with others. Many of the people who supported your journey are here today.”

As graduates embark on their next chapter, Dean Dyson encouraged them to carry forward the principle of “Lift As You Climb”— to use their knowledge, voice, and position to uplift others and create pathways for those who will follow. The newly expanded GCSW alumni community stands ready to respond to the evolving challenges facing society with skill, compassion, and leadership.

Congratulations to PhD candidate Chelsea Sanchez, BSW, MSW, LCSW-S for winning the prestigious University of Houston Graduate Teaching Assistant Award! The honor is given to only four current teaching assistants/fellows who have demonstrated excellence in innovative teaching practices.

When asked how she teaches in the classroom, Chelsea said "My teaching methods focus on helping students move beyond memorization and toward applied critical thinking. I regularly use case-based learning activities grounded in real-world practice scenarios, encouraging students to analyze how trauma, policy, and environmental factors shape client experiences. Rather than teaching theories as abstract concepts, I challenge students to actively apply trauma-informed and justice-oriented frameworks to the kinds of challenges they are likely to encounter, or may already be encountering, in practice."

Chelsea is also a two-time recipient of the CSWE Minority Fellowship Program Awardee. Her commitment to outstanding scholarship and innovative teaching methods is exemplary of the GCSW student community's journey to achieve excellence. View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
