Record-Breaking Depth: The region was buried under more than 5 meters (16 feet) of snow in just a few weeks, the heaviest snowfall recorded in 60 years.

Buried Alive: Drifts reached the second stories of apartment blocks, forcing residents to dig tunnels to leave their front doors.

Logistical Nightmare: Public transport was suspended and replaced by all-terrain military vehicles, while residents were warned against "snow diving" from their windows into the massive drifts.
