Marisa Anderson
@marisaandersonmusic is somewhat of a quiet legend in many scenes. Her music pulls from folk music, experimental, classical, free improvisation, and sounds from every corner of the world distilled into something singular that only Marisa can do. A deeply genuine sound quite unlike any other artist.

“Marisa Anderson channels the history of the guitar and stretches the boundaries of tradition. Her playing is fluid, emotional, and masterful, featuring compositions and improvisations that re-imagine the landscape of American music.The New Yorker calls Anderson ‘one of the most distinctive guitar players of her generation’, and NPR refers to her as among ‘this era’s most powerful players’. Her music has been featured in Rolling Stone, NPR, TheNew York Times, Pitchfork, the BBC and The Wire. Festival appearancesinclude Big Ears, Pitchfork Midwinter, Le Guess Who and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Anderson is the recipient ofthe 2025 Spark Award for Oregon Artists presented by the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation.

In addition to her solo work, Anderson is sought after as a collaborator and composer.Swallowtail, her second record in duo with drummer Jim White was released May 2024 on Thrill Jockey Records. 2024 also saw the release of the feature film score ‘ A Perfect Day For Caribou’, as well as appearances on records by Charlie Parr, Myriam Gendron and Big|Brave. In addition to multiple solo releases, past projects include 2021’s Lost Futures with guitarist William Tyler, and contributions to recordings by Matmos, Tara Jane O’Neil, Beth Ditto, Sharon Van Etten and Circuit Des Yeux, among others.

Bridge is a boundary-pushing ensemble blending modern jazz fusion with the rich traditions of Argentinian folklore and Cuban music. Formed over a year ago, the band has developed a distinctive voice shaped by avant-garde jazz influences and a deep sense of groove and exploration. Featuring Carlos Vega on keys and Federico Selis on drums, Bridge creates immersive soundscapes that balance rhythmic complexity, melodic sensitivity, and improvisational freedom.
Each week, Bridge will be joined by different artists making each Thursday something unique and singular.

Whose music has spanned genre and defied sonic gravity, creates not only an incredible soundscape in his performances, but creates a sonic landscape in which we can wander, wonder, marvel, reminisce, be still, process and integrate. His music reaches down into the earth and rises to the sky. “If you ask a poplar about redwoods, they’ll probably start talking something about faith”

Walt McClements is an accordionist, multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Los Angeles. His solo compositions focus on processed accordion, creating patient and emotional meditations that nod to drone and ambient music. His debut record, “A Hole in the Fence” was released in 2021 on American Dreams, and utilized a minimal palette of accordions processed through pedals to create glacial soundscapes and odes to hidden worlds. On his latest record, and first for Western Vinyl, “On a Painted Ocean”, he expands his sonic tools to include lush synths, droning pipe organs, and spirited horns, creating a vibrant journey from solitary stillness to community exuberance. The record also follows last year’s “Rain on the Road”, a collaborative album with harpist Mary Lattimore, released on Thrill Jockey.

Prior to releasing music under his own name, McClements had been a touring member of Weyes Blood, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and Dark Dark Dark, as well as leading New Orleans art-punk brass ensemble Why Are We Building Such A Big Ship? and one man band Lonesome Leash.

Ian Hazel
you may recall a lot of Ian’s presence in our music community maybe best remembered from his work in folk punk band Bombs & Beating Hearts, Bramble or the hardcore band Trebuchet. Navigating sincerity, raw energy and composition, Ian has re-emerged a fully composed composer, bringing in all his inspirations from classical, punk, waltz, folk, and blending them into some kind of authentic, generous and singular voice for accordion. Not to be missed

Jakob Heinemann is a double bassist and composer based in Los Angeles. His practice draws on free improvisation, just intonation, and experimental sound, expressed through a broad array of mediums ranging from contemporary chamber ensembles to rock bands. Inspired by the possibility of creating complex soundscapes in collective frameworks, he’s interested in music as a communal experience, for both listeners and players. Deeply rooted in the creative music communities of Chicago, Wisconsin, and Los Angeles, his practice reflects a sustained engagement with place, listening, and timbre.

Rff Tkr @hal_o_jean
is among many things, an exploratory cellist. Working with acoustic and electric elements, tape manipulations, drones and melody. Rff Tkr blends the classical, avant-garde and drone elements into something unique. Hal also fronts the band @hoof_less_ and runs a community forward concert series as @hyphaproductions

@asher__bay is an exploratory musician and sound designer, oft using ipad, max msp, Asher explores modality, rhythm, generative patching and new music forward ideas.

@it_foot_it_ears , the duo of Jason Raab and Nick Foster, are some kind of earnest lighthouse for our creative community in Salt Lake City. For years they have been delightfully pushing the boundaries of their instruments and composition, finding the places where humor and high art flourish together.Jason oft with prepared guitars skitter and dance with percussive melody, Nick’s drumming is a masterclass of extended technique and timing. Seperately, they are both fixtures in our arts communities, Nick performing frequently with dance companies like @heartland.collective Jason curated and carrying on 12minutes max at the public library. Together they are an inspiring pulsating mind expanding and delightful creative force. “The sound of strange ideas finding their place, of intellectual hijinks and enthusiastic exchange; it’s the sound of energy and the camaraderie of weirdos”

Ben’s music creates an environment in which the everyday becomes enlightened, the mundane illuminated and given it’s moment to shine. More prose than lyric, Ben’s observational writing is a stand out in its own right, put together with his unique musicality, writing mainly for guitar and organs, and joined by drummer Mike Fuchs @passivetourist they create a whole world to get lost in, to be moved by and to be moved into the beauty and profundity and profanity of the everyday.

An evening with John Petrucelli @petrucelliofficial

Petrucelli along with some of Salt Lake’s finest in jazz and improvisation return to Driftlounge for an evening of exploratory jazz and improvisation. Their last performance here was so rich with with melody, exploration and deep vibes that it has become John’s forthcoming release. Join us to celebrate and welcome them back to Salt Lake City.

The former head of the Jazz Dept at the University of Utah has been ‘Described by All About Jazz as “a musician with a burning desire to explore,” John Petrucelli is an award-winning saxophonist, composer, and scholar whose work weaves cutting-edge performance practices with contemporary research methods that challenge the borders and boundaries of jazz, classical, and electronic music.

Petrucelli’s artistic practice includes mentorship and performance with legendary members of the jazz tradition including Geri Allen, Victor Lewis, Ralph Bowen, Charles Tolliver, Carl Allen, Sean Jones, Delfeayo Marsalis, Conrad Herwig, Terence Blanchard, Lewis Porter, and Stanley Cowell. He has recorded three critically acclaimed albums as a leader: The Way (2015), Mischievous Minx (2017), and Presence (2018).
