洋服の話。
25年ほど前のコム デ ギャルソン・オムの麻ニット。
装飾は一切なく、それでいて黒の発色が美しく、麻特有のシャリ感も心地よくて、よく着ていた一着。
当時のオムの服は、不思議なくらい自分の身体によく合っていた。
それもそのはずで、ギャルソンに入社して間もない頃、当時デザイナーだった田中啓一さんに声をかけてもらい、トワルやサンプルが上がるたびにフィッティングモデルを務めていたからである。
ジャケットの仮縫いの時も僕でやっていたから、ある意味ではオーダーメイドであるわけだ。
その頃の自分は今よりずっと細く、身長のバランスも含め、日本人男性をターゲットにしていたオムの服にちょうど合っていたのだと思う。
また、ジュンヤワタナベとは異なる、オムの正統派メンズウェアの作り方を、フィッティングモデルという立場を通して学ばせてもらったとも感じている。
あの時代2人のデザイナーを見れたのは幸運だった。
この麻のニットは、その時に「似合っているね」と田中さんから譲っていただいたサンプルである。
今ではもう腕を通すことはできないが、自分にとって大切な洋服のひとつである。

今日は、もうすぐ3棟が追加オープンする
NOT A HOTEL KITAKARUIZAWA BASE Lのためにレコードを選んでいた。
音を重ねながら、空間のイメージを少しずつ膨らませていく。
自分たちが心から楽しんできたからこそ、できることがあると思う。
好きな曲を、好きな人たちと、ゆっくり味わうための選曲。
旅と音楽と洋服は組み合わさって文化となる。
C.O.S.A.×KID FRESINOがサンプリングしたTodd Rundgrenの楽曲Marleneを山の中で聴きたかった。
そして何より、選んでいるこの時間が一番楽しい。

移動の多い人生だと思う。
でも、その分だけクリエイティブは育つらしい。
飛行機では、いつも迷わず窓側の席。
地上を眺めている時がいちばん好き。
昨日見た青森、陸奥湾のかたちは、美しかった。
ああいう風景に出会うと、また想像力がふっと湧き出す。
移動の多い人生だと思う。
でも、その分だけクリエイティブは育つらしい。
飛行機では、いつも迷わず窓側の席。
地上を眺めている時がいちばん好き。
昨日見た青森、陸奥湾のかたちは、美しかった。
ああいう風景に出会うと、また想像力がふっと湧き出す。
新規プロジェクトの立ち上げにあたり、
最適化されたプロフェッショナルチームの構築を進めていて、
そのメンバーと山小屋にて、ゆっくり呑みながら火を囲み、今後の展望について深掘りしていた。
ビジョンを高い解像度で共有できるか、そして各メンバーが主体的にやり甲斐を見出せる設計を実現できるか。
その両立こそがプロジェクトの成否を左右する。
組織のデザインがあって、プロダクトが成り立つと思っている。
良い夜だった。
発表に向け、引き続き具体化と精度の向上を図っていきたい。

好きなデザイナーは選べないが、好きなショーを一つ挙げるなら、ハイダー・アッカーマンがディレクターを務めたベルルッティのファーストコレクションと答えてきた。
値段は高い。装飾もない。でも、佇まいがある。
同じようなものは誰でも作れる。

この歳になり、必要と不必要の境界は変わった。
仕事も、人も、意識も。
朝は早く起きる。身体を動かす。
それを毎日、繰り返す。
今日もここから始まる1日。
継続の先にしか見えないものがあると思う。
今、情報はもう誰でも持っている。
違いは、体験しているかどうかだけだ。
例えば、僕がアウトドアウェアを作る時、必ず旅をし、山のアトリエで試し、着ている環境を想像し楽しんでからデザインを考える。
情報だけで分かった気になり体験しないものづくりは意味がない。
体験は繰り返しの中で身体化され、
それがそのまま造形になる。
体験が身体化され、造形され、実装され、提供されるという事。
これは常に大学で話してきた。
最後に残るのは、
実装し、提供できる力だけ。
組織も、デザインも、机の上からは生まれない。
プロダクトは使わないと魅力がわからない。
体験がすべてになる。
面白い時代になってきた。
本日3月31日をもって、ホワイトマウンテニアリングでのすべての業務を終えました。
そして同時に、東北芸術工科大学 客員教授としての役目もここで一区切りとなります。
20年。
振り返れば、あまりにも多くの景色を見てきました。
そのひとつひとつが、今も静かに心の奥に残っています。
ここまで歩んでこられたのは、支えてくださった皆さまのおかげです。
本当にありがとうございました。

ホワイトマウンテニアリングをはじめた頃に借りてた五本木のトイレもないアパートで、部屋番号は13号室。
寝転がると壁に足と手がつく狭さで家賃は4万5千円。
家具はリサイクルショップとホームセンターで揃え、
手元にあったのは、ぎりぎりで手に入れた白いMacBookと、ペンと紙だけ。
何もなかったけれど、
やり方次第で勝負できると、ただそれだけを信じていました。
スマホが無い時代ガラケーで残ってる写真は
初代アシスタントが撮ったこれだけ。
その彼は昨年、長い旅に出てしまいました。
だから今でも、「13」という数字に惹かれるのだと思います。
明日から、新たな法人とともに、次の挑戦が始まります。
またひとつ、山を登るように。
あの13号室にいた頃の気持ちを忘れずに。
一歩ずつ、自分の足で進んでいきます。
