Hi, I’m David, the editor of MANHOOD.

I’ve never had so much fun editing a documentary and loved the challenge of trying to approach body modification from a fresh perspective. This edit was an exciting opportunity to dig underneath sensationalism and get to know the men drawn to this little-known procedure.

So excited to premiere GROUNDHOG TOWN on The New Yorker today !!! This weird film took many long, lonely editing nights and means a lot to me. My dad’s favorite movie is “Groundhog Day” and it was surreal to wake up on February 2nd, 2021 in a small bed and breakfast in the center of Punxsutawney.

Infinite thanks to the best producer, @luketerrell, who mysteriously keeps agreeing to this stuff, to @Soojeong1, @melissamfk and @devonmarlie at @newyorkermag for believing in the value of sharing it, to my @stanforddocfilm family, and to @bigskydocfest for an amazing premiere. Grateful to @benyoungmusic for a dark, strange score, and @rda.color and Dan Olmsted for helping me get it to the finish line!

Most of all, thank you to Punxsutawney Phil for showing us the way, and to the many kind residents of Punxsutawney who opened up their homes and stores and mines and hearts to us. 7 days til Groundhog Day.

YOUR FRIEND, MEMPHIS is having its East Coast premiere this coming Friday 6:30 at the Philadelphia Film Fest. I’m thrilled that this particular premiere is also a hometown premiere.
