BABA’S CHANDELIER @sit.marrickville
When @slurpic0 and @alexkelly95’s email with the baba’s icon popped up in my inbox, without reading, I knew exactly what we were to do. On visits to @babasplace__ I had always admired their lighting piece, a beautiful table cloth draped over a hanging light. The beauty of its simplicity, so powerful in capturing Baba’s essence. Immortalising this piece was a great honour as I have loved what the @babasplace__ team have accomplished in Sydney. A powerful message and demonstration of community and family oriented hospitality.
The chandelier for me was also a great lesson in that anything in the pursuit of furthering one’s knowledge, is never a waste of time.
Initially we didn’t have the infrastructure to warp a piece of Perspex this large and reached out to manufacturers to see if they could help. We were met with the idea was impossible because the holes in the acrylic would melt away, however I knew that this may not be the case as we actually did achieve it once through our @dinneralaperspex series; a remake of Lankan Filling Stations hopper. Combined with our knowledge of making textural patterns for @nikhill_porcine ‘s Milan Cricket Club and doily patterns for MasterChefAU, I had hope!!
A special thank you to @plastixaustralia who have put up with my weird demands for the last 13 years and thank you for letting me use the oven for this idea, a pleasure to be banned from the Christmas party 5 years ago to no fault of my own and sorry for cheating on you with other Perspex oven manufacturers. (@g.hannnan , @baileysachr @darcyhannan ❤️❤️). Muted video of the WIP as it was really just stress/ profranity

Yoooo, call @seanseaevans , the hottest Thai Charcoal Chicken shop about to drop in St Kilda.
CHICKEN SPRINKLER for @yang.thai__
This marks our first sign in the Melbourne restaurant community and I am super pleased with the result. For those that have been fortunate to try the pop up weekends at @manze_melbourne, @thatplaceonvictoriast and @chronicles.bar you know this is primed for greatness.
A pleasure that it could be for @dimitri_power and @hotnoodlecoldwine (who I met at the first @pizza_oltra Sunday pop and made the greatest Thai clam pizza ever),
Thanks for trusting me after I used dropped cold concepts with words like ‘we makin a hot box, maybe a giant fire extinguisher, blah blah’
Excited to drop in soon 🙏🏼

OMA CREATIVE AWARDS TROPHY for @oma_australia
A trophy design proposed by @howatsonandcompany realised by us for the inaugural 2024 OMA Creative awards night, celebrating outstanding creativity in 6 different categories focusing on engaging outdoor advertising projects. 6 trophies + 1 standout Grand Prix trophy.
Slightly left of field of what we normally work on, but when I saw the brief I was excited to give it a shot. Thank you to @craigsr_ who helped on the 3D modelling of this project and realising my comments (slide 4 lol) into a physical world piece. I am definitely a 3D thinker because of my architecture training, so I am glad someone else could understand what I was babbling on about (I think?)
After numerous in house prototyping and paint tests, the final print was done with @colemangroup_au and their amazing 3D printing division.

TWINS TWINS TWINS
PASTRY DIRECTORY and PASTRY WALL LIGHTS for @ffpastryclub
Coming soon (May 2nd!) to the CASBA courtyard in Waterloo the @frenchsfair team are bringing sandwiches, pastries and coffee to the palm tree lined space.
Briefed with creating a set of a-frames that would draw customers in from the 2 parallel streets, we looked at ways of drawing people in from varying angles. Scaling their pastry boxes to a-frame size and folding the out of stainless panels was what we ended up with. Frozen in mid unfold to reveal a mill finish, or maybe to reveal what’s to come in pastry form!!!

BOX FRAME SIGN for @stitch.coffee
Guess you could say we ‘stitched’ the red box to the stainless steel black frame 🤪. (I’ve lost the plot)
A custom frame for the coffee extraordinaire’s flagship Marrickville location (coming soon). A slide-able side allows for the concealment of a battery operated light, illuminating the sign like a lantern 🏮
This was one of multiple sign pieces, you can pop into their cafe soon to have a look at

C.M.K (CHOTTO MATTE KUDASAIIII) SIGN for @firstlightlambton
A redesign and bespoke take on the typical ‘Please wait to be seated’ sign that often greets patrons upon entry to venues.
A concrete ballast base allows for a slimline top that doesn’t seem overbearing upon first visit. Taking the idea of ‘First light’ and utilising a tinted acrylic that filters light so beautifully at the right angle.

EXTRUDE FRAME for @studio.artegra
One of the greatest skills I took out of studying architecture was the ability to communicate complex ideas in the form of various drawings. Technical shop drawings, diagrams, renders, it gave me the skills to break down ideas into a form that someone that didn’t study architecture could understand. Working with hospitality restaurants, sometimes a picture/ render will say more than a sectional scale drawing. At the same time, you’ll need those shop drawings to communicate to fabricators and builders
Sometimes though, you get to work woth 3D artists like @studio.artegra where both of us are able to communicate directly through .3dm files (rhino). What a dream!!
A complex extruded and folded a-frame where parts were folded and custom RHS were made to suit the logo of Max’s design studio.
